My starting kit. S2/S3 and 28f3.5 and 50f1.4. Plenty of film in Nikon reload able cassettes - all 400 iso. The kit has already changed somewhat after 4 rolls shot. Now it is a SP with the 28f3.5 and a S3 Millennium in chrome with the Voigtlander S-Nokton 50f1.5.

Fraser, great grain and contrast--wish I could get my hands on a 35 1.8 lens for myself!
Cheers, I've got 1200 feet of plus-x movie stock to get through so I thought I should get shooting! Not sure if it works that well with rodinal nice and sharp but quite a lot of grain for 100 ISO but maybe it's my rodinal that's about ten years old.

Fraser, go to a MQ developer like D76 for smoother grain or mix yourself a batch of Beutler for the +X. Is that the EK 5321 you have? Great emulsion and Kodak of corse stopped making it! It has some of nicest tones of any bl/w film. I used up my last 400fy a couple f years ago and use the ORWO UN 54 as a substitute. Good, but not the same.

Fraser, this is from a past Nikon Rf month (2010). Kodak 5231 (+X) rated at 100 iso and developed in D96 of 6 min. D96 was Kodak's Movie stock developer, somewhat mid tone biased, but very smooth grain. Nikon SP and Nikkor 105mm f4.0. The D96 is close to the D76 - particularly D76 1:1. I would give it 7-8 min in that soup - but the with 1200 ft, you have plenty of rom to experiment. Most movie stocks are a bit "grotty" and grainy in surface type developers like Rodinal.

Cheers will give that a try the dev I have at the moment is d76, xtol and tmax so will mix up the d76 and give that a try.

First roll shot, with my new 13.5cm glass, now I have a finder and i did wait for THE month. It needs some buddies to keep it company in the tank so I'm working on that today, first of a series of 50mm, no shortage of those

We need some color!
I kept it light and compact by bringing only a Nikkor 5cm f/2 lens yesterday while hiking. Well, my 35mm kit was light. The 4x5 with 4 lenses, not so much.

I held back testing my 13.5cm addition, threw up a couple of issues.
Random architecture was fine:
My habit of shooting verticals means the parallax compensation on the external finder is not helping enough, it should work just as well as horizontal shouldn't it?
Finally, I hit the focus spot on, the clips!! I hit the exposure spot on, the outside of the canopy. Can't blame the lens just BAD.

S3 3.5cm 1.8 Plus x 5231 D76 1+1 as suggested by Tom A still quite a lot of grain but I think my fixer is on its way out so neg has not cleared very well.

From Roll 2 of Nikon Rf Month. S3 and chrome 50mm f1.4. Tri X in D96/9 min
A bit of a blanket statement - admirable sentiment though.

Another roll with the 13.5cm, just isolating subjects that are out of reach normally, unless you are an heroic cropper.
The Harvey is ticking along nicely, half way through my replenisher now, very consistent results.
This on Ilford HP5+ a biggish batch of 24 exposure rolls I bought off someone who pressed the wrong button wanting 36, problem is you do burn through rolls!! Always re-loading.

Moving on to the 50mm f1.4 Olympic, really hard to split from the ASPH although this light was kind to sharpness.
