March is almost here.

Lately I have been doing strength training. In the past it would be mountain biking for strength and then a transition into road bikes for more of a cardio workout. Right now I use an Elyptical in the gym in my building and I toggle between levels 17 and 18 that can be set 1-25.

Pretty much a balance of two types of fitness. In the past I was more of a mountain biker, but riding around lycra clad women has its attraction.

Another thing is if you are an endurance athlete pretty much this allows someone to be a binge eater. Was not uncommon for me to eat eight slices of pizza, readily consume a 1 pound box of pasta, and pretty much eat as much as I want and not gain any weight.

In a way it is an eating disorder. At this point I am very critical about what I eat and I curb my appetite. Looking forward to being able to eat more. In Chinese culture you kinda live to eat.

Tomorrow I get a new Middleburn spyder from my pal Alex the giant. I'll be able to get a 63 inch gear with a 43-16 instead of a 46-17, and save a little weight that is rotating and linear mass from my drivetrain.

This allows for more snap and less flywheel inetia for better acceleration. I might only save perhaps an ounce, but I'll take it. This also gives me a perfect chain length and avoids requiring a chain tensioner.

I'll also be getting a 26 tooth inner chainring that will allow me to create a triple 3x1. The 20 tooth is too big a drop for the Paul Component Melvin and also the front deraileur had some clearance problems. The 26 tooth gives me a 39" for a 63"-51"- 39" with a 16 tooth and about a 60"-48"-36" with a 17 tooth freewheel.

If you imagine that one cycle of the pedles covers 5, 4 or three feet with each revolution it is easy to grasp the effort required to say go up a hill in three foot steps or how fast a 5 foot stride might take you.

Pretty cool that I get two nice 3x1 spreads with only a freewheel change from 16 tooth to 17 tooth. Pretty useful and not so much more than a single speed, yet still minimal.

Durable 3/16 inch 8 speed chain also for low maintenance and durability.

Know that I think I will be doing my own blog in May or by the beginning of June. Camera, bike and guitar culture is my platform.

BTW I used the GoPro Hero 7 to gather some material. Right now "Maggie" is coaching me and suggests that I develop and gather images to have a stockpile.

I still miss my "Baby-Dog" but he kinda made me lazy. This year I'm going to be ripped by the summer. I should be pretty strong, lost about 5 pounds of flab, but now I have about 5 pounds of muscle gained. I'm 5'9" and weight 157 which is a lot for me.

Today's slacker goal is to mail Phil's prize for the largest rangefinder. He won on a technicality, and since I go off topic so much it would be discriminatory for me not to give the leeway that I abuse. LOL.

The prize for largest rangefinder is a Yashica "Atoron" camera kit that is boxed, includes filter, battery, instructions, Yasica cleaning cloth, flash, flash bulbs, case, and strap.

Phil's entry is the rangefinder from the Iowa class battleship New Jersey that has a rangefinder base length of 40 feet for the big guns.

Oh well, not a camera.

Today Maggie expects a delivery of clothes from a designer. She also has some panel that she is on, and has to drop off some clothing that a designer lent her for NYC Fashion Week.

The "Market Shows" now begin. One of our friends is back from relocating in California. Market shows are given by designers who don'y have the funds to do a runway show, and Market Shows are where designers and buyers connect to check out the new lines.

Looks like the final iteration of a book proposal is in the hands of Maggie's literary agent.

Now it seems our dentist reminds us a month in advance about a scheduled appointment so that rescheduling does not happen at the last minute. Already we have a conflict.

Tomorrow I have my Focus Group interview. Pretty much the homework was develop/engineer a financial product. I actually think my idea is a great one and is timely. I would even say that it likely will be implemented because it makes sense and is a great-great idea.

Pretty much I'm a "Bankster."

Today I should get the 26 tooth inner chainring. It offers a modular use as a Trials gear with the Middleburn Pro Trials "bash" Guard, and also as a granny gear on my 3X1.

What is rather odd and unusual is that this chainring is for 96 BCD "Compact-Drive" and pretty much 20 and 22 tooth prevail. 24 and especially 26 tooth is unheard of, but somehow I data mined and found one of perhaps the last two ever made.

Pretty much either a very lucky find or "divine intervention."

Make sure you mix it up on the elliptical. Set the incline lower to focus on upper body (like you are skiing with your arms). This really works the core as well. Increase incline for lower body.

LC,

I vary the workouts modulating between levels 17 and 18. The machine adjust between 1-25 and accounts for body weight as it is a Pro Fitness machine.

I also simulate a standing climbing bike position where I jut my butt back for both speed and power. Very much simulates riding one of my IBIS bikes.

At times instead of doing continious workout of sustained 40 to hour 15 minutes with brief spurts of speed to make time goals, at times I just do an all out one mile as an interval with an all out last 1/10th mile that is a brutal sprint.

When I sprint I'm pretty much cheating and using as much as my upper body as possible. Pretty much I cover that 1/10th mile on level 18 in about 60 seconds and overall the entire mile is 17 minutes.

Pretty much I max out my hear rate to 172 for a brief moment. What is impressive is after about two minutes of rest I can repeat this another two times.

In Central Park are the "Harlem Hills." There is a steep descent that is rather long, and a series of three long climbs that I use as a circuit to do intervals. The last hill requires strength and by then there is no momentum helping you.

Understand that my power band is limited because I only have a single speed. The 63 gear inches spins out on the downhills, and the last hill is just grunting up the hill. Not uncommon to see casual cyclists walking bikes up the last hill.

For part of my circuit I am able to hang with the serious riders on geared road bikes, but somewhere at the second hill I generally get "dropped."

Thanks for the support. I take my beating like a man.

I'm excited about pitching my financial product to this research group tonight. I believe it is such a good idea that it could be implemented and be offered by the client. Free food and $350.00 cash, no W-9 or 1099. All for an hour interview in an interagation room.

"Maggie" has her panel that she is on gig tonight. She tells me she should be home around ten.

I'm feeling a bit sleep deprived. I have to be careful of overtraining. Loss of sleep is the primary sign. Rest more or a break is required. You can't just hammer.

Dan,

Harvey Stein is having a show at the Leica Store SoHo. On Wednesday March 6th is the opening and book signing. Perhaps I'll see you there.

Cal

I say by definition artists are exhibitionists. LOL.

So today I am reminded of a Paul Smith Sample Sale that happened/occured 5 years ago on West Broadway in SoHo not far from the Leica Store.

Pretty much a Pop-Up event in a vacant storefront, and Paul Smith jeans that normally cost $300.00 were selling for $40.00. It was time to load up the truck.

So with jeans you basically have to try them on, but there are no changing rooms so basically you kinda try and find a private space in public and pretty much take off your shoes and then pants in public.

So I am proud of my lean body so I have no problem exposing myself. I see other guys doing the same. I ended up using the plastic card with the magic numbers to buy eight or nine pairs of jeans, a $600.00 pair of boots for $100.00, and a $600.00 pair of shoes also for $100.00.

Once you leave the Pop-Up event all sales are final.

So today years later I have remorse because my stockpile is being depleted and I wish I had been UBER greedy.

I went to another Pop-Up "Sample Sale" for a brand Black Denium. There I saw mucho women in panties all over the place and even one woman wearing her thong.

So today I'm wearing my Paul Smith black skinny leg pants. Pretty much the cut prevents one from exercising due to leg restriction and perhaps I could still do push-ups or planks, but nothing else. Not the most comfortable, and due to the black color I can't wear them in the summer.

An old pair of Paul Smith jeans with a more relaxed fit gave it up, and another pair I recently dumped because I wore out one of the pockets and I didn't want something bad to happen.

I'll have to check my stock. The CF in me does not want to spend money on jeans unless I can match these deal I had. Oh-well.

So for entertainment value for those not in NYC, this is Calzone reporting. Back to you Dan...

Cal

So my interview last night was only a half hour. It was abbreviated because I don't bank online. Still got $350.00 honorarium.

So I discovered a black pair of Paul Smith jeans that is the last pair from the sample sale that has a relaxed fit, yet is perfectly tailored for a lanky guy like me. I also found a grey pair of Paul Smith jeans I bought at the Williamsburg store when it was the factory outlet. These grey jeans are of cotton but not denium and are a good weight for the summer but not for the winter.

I have some Japanese Jeans that I bought in this thrift store that specializes in Japanese designers. This is great because I'm alright with jeans for a while.

One thing about the Paul Smith jeans I learned is that I will never buy pre-washed or relic'ed jeans again because they are not durable. I would rather deal with the initial cardboard feel in new jeans.

For the summer I'm hedged because I loaded up the truck with knickers I bought from Patagonia at there end of season closeout. I also have a bit of a collection of other knickers.

I have no problem wearing knickers to work and since I live about 2 1/2 miles away I think I'll run as my commute. At work I even have a shower. In a ways I can do a "Time Trial" and try to cover the distance in the least amount of time and take advantage of the East River Prom-in-aide to avoid cars and traffic.

One trick I learned from being poor growing up is to air dry jeans and never use a dryer to avoid wear. Also turning them inside out for washing extends their wear. I would say that the Paul Smith jeans are a premium product that have better tailoring and are longer wearing. Pretty much with special care mentioned above I can make them last about twice as long as a pair of Levies. The denium is particularly higher quality.

So looks like I already can exceed the three sets of 50 push-ups. I now make them harder by elevating my feet 30 inches off my Cyclotron console at work for added weight transfer. Three sets of 55 is not so hard, but I need ample rest.

I like the explosive energy of these bursts. I kinda do these like intervals so maybe today I do 5 sets. Back when I was a kid I did vertical push-ups against a wall. I needed the strength to fight bigger kids growing up.

Life can be brutal, and perhaps I'm a bit of a brute. So something new to obsess about: getting into race shape even though my racing years are over.

Camera Smut: Seems that the 35 Cron-SL is expected to be released in April. My dealer inquired if I would like to "pre-order."

I still have to do my taxes... so no pre-ordering for me at this time.

You know the deal, the lens is released, but not readily available.

The 35 Cron and other SL Crons take a 67mm filter so all the lenses are still big and heavy. I already have two Heliopan "Digtal" 67mm filters I picked up used at B&H in anticipation.

BTW Leica Camera is one of "Maggie's" followers. Would be really great if Leica "gifted" me this lens.

I am the ultimate lazy slacker. I tried to have Saul post some JPEG's of three of my four bikes, but that did not happen.

So then I contact Scot Nicol and send him the JPEG's and he then asked if he could post some of the images on the IBIS Instagram.

They just got posted. Scot confirms my suspicions: my bike is a one off.

Google "IBIS Instagram" and the web address will come up.

Cal "the lazy slacker."

Cal, if it was a side pocket that wore out, you should have kept those jeans. If you look on Amazon, they sell Dritz "Iron-On Repair Pockets"

I remembered my mom using them when I was a kid and got a idea to see if Amazon had them as I haven't seen them in discount stores or fabric stores in about 30 years.
I ordered 2 packages (two repair pockets per pack) and fixed several of my work pants that had torn side pockets. That's been a year and the repairs are still holding up.

MFM,

I didn't want to loose my keys. I have a FOB also to get into my building, the "package closet" and the bike storage in the basement. These electronic FOB's are a pain to get replaced. I know because "Maggie" lost her keys.

So I mourn the loss of some jeans that I wore well. Truth be told is that there was mucho wear in other areas. It was time.

Paul Smith was a cyclist who was injured in an accident, and that led to him becoming a designer. His tailoring is well suited for a skinny bitch like me. You kinda have to be lean and muscular to best wear Paul Smith clothes.

I have these summer wool pants I bought to go with a Paul Smith blue blazer for a beach wedding up at Cape Cod. They are shinny and resemble and look like leather pants that fit skin tight, but the material is so light that my boys can feel the breeze if the wind is blowing. Pretty much fits so well like skin that it feels like I'm naked. I call these pants my "Runway Pants."

Kinda weird walking around Madhattan as if naked.

Kinda interesting when I wear my other Paul Smith suit. One girl in my class at FIT said I look like an Asian version of James Bond. LOL.

I don't get dressed up often, but when I do I go all the way.

Talking about 35mm lenses, I just received my first lens for my Sony A7 it's
believe it or not a Samyang 35mm f2.8. It's small and light and sharp, I've
been taking the Sony out for a walk and so far it's a great combo and when
I set the camera to spot focusing at 2.8 it's crazy sharp. You know I've been
complaining that they didn't make a full frame digital camera that's the size of
a 35mm SLR film camera well not any more.

Last night "Maggie" had to teach, so I had the opportunity to "Smoke Test" the 1960 Fender Brown Super Amp for about an hour.

I also had modded the tone circuit of the Vibrato channel to match the early 6G4 circuit that has a lower gain, is less bright, and has more of a retro "tweed" sound that has more pronounced midrange.

The Vibrato Channel still is brighter and has more gain than my Normal channel. Perhaps still a step towards a "Blackface" with scooped mids.

I happen to like the Fender clean sound of the tweeds without any effects that has a vocal quality and seems to be more touch sensitive. Pretty much I pull the sounds with my attack and with my hands.

My guess is that a person who likes or uses effects would rather like using the Vibrato channel for the added brightness and clarity, otherwise the sound gets too thick and perhaps muddy.

So the amp I created from this "transitional" amp has the pre-amp and power amp of the early 6G4 brown "Super" with the later 6 tube Vibrato circuit of the later 6G4-A Super, but utilizes the layout and tag board derived from the "Blonde Twin" that was released around 1961.

"I love it."

Pretty much made my amp from an amp that needed deep forensics, reverse engineering, and archival digging. Only paid $1.1K for an amp that is worth $2.5K to $3.5K even though it came with new Mercury Magnetics power and output trannies, new reissue Jenson P12R speakers, and a new replacement cabinet.

510 likes in 20 hours for the Ti IBIS shots posted on the IBIS Instagram.

Some negative criticism for not having an IBIS Ti stem by someone who is associated with Merlyn, another builder that only makes Ti bikes. It has a Ti stem, but IBIS stems are very highly regarded. I would either need a zero rise or a High-Rise stem.

The "Hand-Job" confused some and led to sex scandal in the comments, until someone added clarity that an investment cast little fist is utilized as a rear brake cable hanger that became obsolete when Vee-Brakes were invented.

Nice to see the IBIS made it as a TBT post! I posted my comment and did a quick look at others. Indeed, comment sections can be hilarious!

March already... wow. I got sort of accidentally included into a local camera club "analog" exhibition in a few weeks. Must do all the printing tonight and finish off the rest Monday latest. Some senior members will assist in getting nice prints.
Took ages to not touch B&W because of no infrastructure and now am learning the whole process in a couple weeks...

EDIT: I think it was on the other thread but I felt that I have to improve my physical conditioning. Ironically I saw the bike buddy and told hime "you smoked me", to which he replied, "no, you did, I could not believe how you climbed that hill". The Bob trick was going down and climbing it multiple times. Perhaps it's not the best to give the most power at once.

Jorde,

I'm not so hip. What is "TBT" and what does it mean? I'm clueless. LOL.

A comment from Scot was posted. I learned from Scot about developing an "alter ego." We kinda share the same sense of humor. Scot's alter ego is named "Chuck:" mine is "Calzone."

I love that he is pimping my bike. "I love it."

Could be really useful in my plans. Since I have a Masters degree in TV Broadcast television and news reporting I picked up #Tiroom which I assume is an Instagram site from one of the comments. Connect this to that three out of four bikes are titanium, and evidently there is a dedicated space for weight weenies like me to cultivate.

I'm refraining from joining Instagram because it is so phone driven, but I might have to add a few comments to the IBIS Instagram myself.

I think if I took some shots of both of my IBIS Mountain Trials and sent them to Scot that he too would post them. How cool is it to own a steel version from back in the day (mid-80's) and a one-off Ti version.

Interesting how the world is not that big. Someone in the comments made reference to seeing the EBAY auction that dates back to August 2015.

Also being acquainted with and friendly with a founder of mountain biking, that is inducted in the Mountain Bike Hall Of Fame and who is also formerly a NORBA Trials Champion is mighty cool.

I'm a big fan of Scot's and I want to promote his legacy. He was this punk kid that all the legends allowed in because he was fast and had good riding skills. The rest is history...

Cal

POSTSCRIPT: I figured out that TBT is short for ThrowBack Thursday. Pretty much retro related images on Instagram.
