Mardi Gras - Cover up camera labels?

I am. Just ordered up some more slide film and B&W. Doing 3 trips, 3 weeks on the road (and 2 weather extremes). Hitting up the Central Adirondack Mountains first for landscape, Montreal second for Nuit Blanche, and then off to NOLA. For the Landscape I'm probably going to lug around my DSLR, but for Montreal it'll be my M6 and M3. NOLA I'm undecided; have to find out if I'm working first, but the M6 will be coming at the very least.

Don't bring a camera at all. Bring beads.

When the pretty college girl pulls her shirt up over her head grab her camera and run....

While I'm sure I'll see that, that isn't the reason I'm going to New Orleans. I'm going to experience the city; I'll be there until the 15th.

I'll be hitting the Big Easy tomorrow afternoon. Bringing my M3, M6 and Rolleiflex EV-MX on the trip. I figure I'll probably have the M3 with a couple of lenses for Mardi Gras. Have a friend that is on the Parade route, so I'll be able to get up into a balcony to shoot down on it too I think!

This may not get even read since this post is 3 pages long, but here it goes I spent 5 days in NO in 2009 during mardi gras I photographed parades and going ons for Three days. This was my second trip to NO. On my 3rd nite my car was broken into and several hundred $$ worth of photo gear was stolen. All 3 nites I parked at a monitored lot with a lot attendant. the attendant left at 10:00 PM I got back to my car at 12:00AM, The car was broken into in that 2 hour period, I had a long conversation with the cops that took my police report. Point 1 learned- NO is a very unsafe city and unfortunately poor city with a large underclass of working poor -In 2008 NO had the highest murder rate of any Major City per 1000 people in the US -`273 murders for a city of 175,000!The nite before I heard Gun shots a few blocks away along the parade route on canal St - 2 people were shot in front of a major hotel. That year 2009 there were 7 shootings during the big parade on Monday or Tuesday, So you might want to bring a bullet proof vest. If you do park your car anywhere in NO make sure its in a parking garage with a 24 hour attendant and put any valuables in the trunk if you have one. but this still wont garantee that it wont be broke into. Last point- The french Quarter is relatively safe compared to the rest of NO. but **** still happens there- murders robberies etc...... This info I gathered from the cops and some longtime residents of NO I talked with after my break-in. Have fun but I would suggest not bring anything you would really miss if it got stolen. My new philosophy for travel photo gear. - Kievman

I watched a documentary on David Alan Harvey and in that he lost his M6 with "good pictures in it" during a Mardi Gras, despite having a bodyguard following his every move. It was kept in his bag.

It was in Brazil by the way..but that sort of scenario can happen anywhere.

Just an update, had a blast in the big easy. Met a few other film shooters along the way, enjoyed great music and had fun during Mardi Gras and St. Pattie's.

Just as a follow up - no photos from Mardi Gras. I had a camera malfunction. and by Camera malfunction I mean I misloaded the camera. woops. For some other shots from New Orleans though, visit http://ericjenks.zenfolio.com/neworleans. The B&W's and one color neg roll are up. Rollei B&W and Color slides will be up soonish (still waiting on the color to be developed).
