Thank you nico for this book suggestion http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/071484604X
His photos span many years. Many are very graphic mono, such as the joyous priests photos as seen on the cover.
He died a few years ago, and he has a website here http://www.mariogiacomelli.it/
I was sitting in a late night bar yesterday looking at the book and many people around me were very impressed by his photos.

Giacomelli is one of the most original photographers who ever walked this planet. The versatility in subjest is huge. Most amazing is he was an amateur all of his life.
His work is often highly abstract and/or surreal .. with one of a kind high key B&W processing.
I also love Giacomelli Jon...... i bough the hardcover version of the book you listed a couple of years ago .. worth every penny!
Glad somebody put this highly underrated photographer under the attention!
Kind regards,
Han

Did you know that this Great Artist went as far as asking farmers in his neighbourood to "draw" the fields for him, so as to photograph the landscape as he wanted to see it? A truly inspiring character...

nico:
Thank you for suggesting this book.
The people he photographed are so much like my neighbors.
Oddly (or not) whenever I take the book into the praça to look at it in the afternoon sun people look over my shoulder and praise his photos.
I think Giacomelli would have liked that.
