I know it may be silly, but i'm spellbound by an ad of Salvatore Ferragamo-
It's the one with Claudia Schiffer climbing out of the back of the Quattroporte..
The bottom on this site-

I assume Testino used a 6x7, but can anybody tell me more about how and with what gear/film such an image is made? The way the blacks are black, yet I can still see into the Maserati and tell the difference between the materials of the door.
See how Claudia's face seems so white, yet the tone is still there, her teeth whiter still..
The shot on the screen does not show the detail and tonal depth that the printed ad does, so maybe go look in pretty much any fashion mag and the ad should be there.. worth looking at if you like black and white- plus the subject is not bad, no matter what your interests are!

Testino has a excellent team of retouchers at his beck and call. Almost any advertisement, especially for fashion rags, goes through a retouching process that would make you head spin if you havn't seen it before. Makes my head spin and I used to do that kind of work (retouching, not shooting - yet) for ad agencies here. Testino states that he doesn't like a lot of retouching... but what's not "a lot" in that world is eons away from what most "street" photographers use.

And I'd be suprised if he was still shooting film (in fact in a CNN profile Q&A he stated that he's been using digital for some years). I'd guess MF digital of one flavor or another.

Testino uses (hear hear) Contax compact cameras.

In May a German major news site had a feature on him and his camera preferences, and his preferred camera at the time was apparently a Contax TVS III. I guess those are not the only cameras he uses, I guess.

Oh I wish that Maserati shot was possible with 35mm film!
But it's just gotta be something big.

I think the color images on that link I put on the original post look digital (whatever that means!), but maybe the 'simulated paparazzi' BW single-flash shots could be film.. such detail and dynamic range.. Whatever it was on those BW shots, I wanna know more about it..

Note that as long as we're talking about 750x550 pixel images on screen, the source really could be anything short of a Minox, especially given the aforementioned army of retouchers, which also makes it difficult to estimate whether a picture "looks" digital or not.

Uups, he did it again: Have a look at Kate Moss' wedding photographs.

Testino and his Contax still happy together...
