link. Then download the 89 page pdf review.

This is an in-depth review. Comparisons are made against other popular scanners including Epson V750 and models from Plustek, Nikon, Imacon, and Minolta. He acknowledges sharper output from higher end scanners but still has positive things to say about the V850 for 35mm scans printed up to 11x17". He also recommends SilverFast 8 Ai Studio with the V850.

The big change in Epson's new scanners is the move to LED lighting and away from flourescent. The negative holders that I saw had transparent plastic (i don't think they would use glass from a cost perspective) to keep the negatives flat.

That's my primary issue with the older Epson negative holders, especially when it comes to 120 film.

Off topic: 89 page review? That's a bit excessive. Sometimes, more isn't better. It's just more.
