I want to buy a few photo books; and it has to be mail order.

At Amazon.co.uk I can see 'Martin Parr' by Sandra Philips 0714845280, and 'Think of England' by Martin Parr 0714844543. They look ideal for me.

Also, I want a Harry Gruyaert book or two. But the only one at Amazon.co.uk is 'TV Shots' 3865213758 and that's not the one for me - I prefer his photos of Belgium.

Does anybody have any books by either of these photographers and can comment on them?

Think of England is great. It's probably the definitive Martin Parr book. It sort of splits the difference between The Last Resort (earlier, more street photography) and Common Sense (close work with flash).

I can't comment on the Gruyaert book.

Andrew: Thank you. Amazon.co.uk have the Sandra Phillips book and 'Think of England' for about £20 the two. Both appeal to me more than the others which you mention which i've seen extracts from and, like you, prefer 'think of England'.

Now, how about Harry Gruyaert?

BTW I'm also looking forward to the new 'compact edition' of Magnum Magnum when it's available at the end of September.

"Small World" is my favorite Martin Parr title. A second edition was published last year so it should be easy to locate.

I don't have Small World. I'll have to check it out. I really, really like The Last Resort. It's out of print (I think) but if you like Parr's work or colour street photography generally, get a copy.
