Martin Parr in the American South

i think mr. parr looks to be a fun guy with a fun eye.
whether a documentary film is worth the effort, i have no idea.
but i'd go see an exhibit of parr's work.

... and he speaks so highly of your work!

I'm not commenting on his work, but for the record I don't like it.

I think that he shouldn't be asking people to donate to a for-profit project when he has plenty of his own money. Are any of the investors going to see long term returns for this? He can sell 2 or 3 sheets of photo paper with his signature on them to fund this.

Kickstarter is supposed to be for people struggling to fund a project, not vanity hacks who don't want to waste their own money on their own projects.

Lame.

What an *sshole.
Spend your own money, Martin.

You're not kicking in money to Parr, it's the director of the short film trying to fund finishing it.

Seems like there are a ton of docs coming out following photographers working these days. Not sure any of them work incredibly well as films.

Good point Bob. I must say when I followed the link I was surprised to see that Mr Parr was asking for sponsors. Maybe he's got a gambling habit to feed? ;)

I do like his photographs, but not enough to buy any. Oddly, just this morning, I was surfing round the Amazon web site and was tempted to buy one of his post-card collections.

Hmmm.... not sure what to make out of the "oddball" stuff he has in the video.

It surely does not represent everyday life in Atlanta, Georgia. I would think the average middle-class person I know would be offended.

I didn`t think it oddball .....rather fun in fact.

He`s from the north west of England and so will, I`m sure, have shot in Blackpool .
Now that can be oddball.:)

Well, I learn something everyday. Thanks, Michael for posting this and for the others' comments as well.

Never heard of Martin before but now have some fun reading/watching to do over the weekend.:)

Please excuse me reviving this thread, but it was j_j's 'cup of tea' reference that got me thinking. I eventually remembered Jon starting this short thread and the onward link here which may add somethink.. or nothink.

He seems to focus on class, crass and cliche, tweaking the "small", negative emotions. I don't have much appetite for it.
