One of my reservations about digital is I can't mix computers and passion. Sure I can use PS to a degree, but I cannot stand it. I have absolutely no interest in getting to know profiles, colour gammuts etc, but with time I will improve my PS to the point of being able to hand over reasonably finished files.

So, with the M9 making an appearance, I have for the very first time a possible interest in shooting digital, probably alongside film bodies. Right now I can take the neg to a top end printer, have a chat, and get a top end silver print. I would like to be able to do the same with a RAW file, but the last time I saw print prices for someone doing lots of top end prints from M8s, the price was something like $600 for a 30x40"! Now, although one assumes smaller prints are cheaper, thats still looking pretty expensive when I can get a regular silver 20x16 print done by a top printer for about $80 and a 20x24 for $130.

Can anyone advise on how to proceed? I am looking for a person/lab who would be able to deal with exhibition prints and in volume at a very high standard. I would like someone I can discuss images with and explain what I want but they do the preparation of the image (until I am ready) for printing and then print it. US or UK suggestions would be great!

You could contact "SixPM" who is a member here on RFF, he is a master printer for digital files and a very nice and friendly person.
