New York May NYC Meet-Up

Knowing you, I’m sure it will be ‘biblical’ like that book Salgado had at his exhibition. You will need to think about integrating wheels or fold out legs so it turns into its own coffee table.

My friend Cris the high-end archtop guitar builder is building me an 18 inch Jazz guitar. The case he is getting custom built will have a wheelie built in.

BTW guys that can play an 18 inch guitar are generally big guys, but because I have narrow shoulders and long arms Cris says it won't be too big for me. I am at a level where even my guitars are custom tailored.

Salgado's "Genesis" is my inspiration. He had 208 prints in that collection, and my printing is single sided. That book as I remember was about 20x30 if closed. My book is more "modest" and will be only 17 x 22 with the addition of a 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inch spine plus covers.

Surely will weigh a lot.

Cal,

If you can't find binder board big enough for the covers-see how much a metal shop will charge you to cut some 1/16 aluminum to size. Worked for Madonna's book...

MFM,

This is the second time you have given/offered sound advice. This replicate these commercial portfolios that are Italian and high ended. Also because I like to promote myself as a lazy slacker it is both clever and easy.

Mucho thanks.

Should be a great guitar, would sound nice with my Fender Tweed Deluxe!

Bob,

TV, wide panel or later narrow panel? Which circuit?

I owned a ratty wide panel that used octal tubes in the pre-amps. Bought it for $200.00 as a carcus. All original except missing speaker including a fried power supply tranny. Bought a clone replacement tranny and it screamed. Loved that amp.

Ended up selling it back to the very same guitar shop for about $2K.

Wide Panel 1953, with the same 6SC7 octal preamp tubes in it. Had to rebuild it as well
not original speaker or output transformer, replaced the caps and it does sing different
sounding to what they sell today.

Hey, Cal-

Spotted this label on a "Anvil" style shipping case at the flea market-cracked up when I read it.

" Calzone Case Co.
225 Black Rock
Bridgeport, CT 06605
203-367-5766"

Maybe you should have them build you a portfolio case.

MFM,

I'm familiar with those "Calzone" flight cases. Pretty much road gear. I had one for a blackface Fender amp I had. Sold it to my friend Tim my Idiot Sevant musician friend. This guy is a natural. He has a feel for every style.

One summer he went missing and I was worrying that he might be dead. Timmie's approach to women is rather novel. From a man's POV he is not Brad Pitt, but Timmie's style is to tell women to get over him, that he is a musician and a bum without a day-job, and that they can do better.

This makes woman want him even more because it is human nature to want what you can't have. This drives the future boyfriends and husbands nuts, because these women kinda dig in and don't let go. My worry was that some boyfriend or husband took him out.

When Tim went missing one summer I would later learn that he was living with Gypsies in a tent in Belgium who were descendants of D'jango Reinhart. You can't make this stuff up.

Bob,

Mine was a wide panel 53 also. I tubed mine with 6SL7's like an ampeg. As I remember this old circuit I used had a blocking cap on the guitar input that had a novel smoothness that made the amp voice my guitars like a sax.

The octal tubes are less chimey, but promote thick vocal like mids.

Lots of fun to play loud (mucho distortion).
