I agree the Vivtar 285 is great especially with one of the Omni Bounce products from http://www.stofen.com/

Olympus T-32. Smaller but just as powerfull. If you like (or can use) off camera flash, the I agree 283.
I love the 292 because of size and power, but parts are a pain.

Vivitar 283's or 285's. Lots of different Sunpak models like the 383 or 333 or 422 etc. Less bulky than the Vivitar's., some with zooming heads like the 283, all with auto-aperture, tilt & swivet, some with manual controls (full to 1/16).
For either Vivitar or Sunpak, make sure you get the PC cord with it, so that you can use it off camera.

I find a large flashgun makes a bessa very top heavy. I've got a 283 but use it rarely for this reason. Anyway, SLR's generally have better flash systems .
