Absolutely, I know McCullin has spoken in the past of being somewhat haunted by his images, reading the end of that article, maybe there's just a hint at the tiniest bit of closure on some of it.
Obviously I'm not saying that those situations and images will no longer have weight or be troubling, or that he won't bear the physical and emotional damage that must be unimaginable for those of us who have only seen the images in print/on screens, that can't be underestimated. I just hope he's managed to find something out there that helps, and it seems there might be a glimmer of that.
Also the last picture caption "Don McCullen, early in his career" is either inaccurate, or he had an unfair advantage over everyone else carrying round a couple of 5D mkIIIs when people were using film haha
Reading that Don McCullin went to Syria to take photographs was a bit unsettling and I was wondering why he was doing that? I liked the idea that he was trying to find some peace in the English countryside after all he has seen, making photographs of what is important to him and of what touches him there.
But maybe he needed to confront the old demons again and he surely has had his reasons. And as it seems he has finally come to an conclusion. I wish him all the best.
