Me, Joe, a few RF's and freezing cold...

we often have winter runs of -40 for a week to 10 days.

now, THAT'S fun!!
Then you'll leap with joy in Minne-soh-tah. There have been temperatures of -40, and the windchill of -60 (that's Farenheit). The news advise you to not go outside unless it is absolutely necessary.

Don't get me started on the lack of salting trucks; since Tim Property-Tax-Pawlenty got re-elected, I'm sure that budget will get slashed too. Fun fun fun!

You'll leap for joy in Minnesota since everytime you touch something you get shocked. I made the mistake of bringing fleece and some polyester work shirts. Not a good idea with the dry air. I'm never leaving the Bay Area.....

hi guys...it wasn't that cold...

i am in jasper, a gem in the canadian rockies.
it's 'between' seasons here so the place is near empty and lots of the touristy stores are closed for a few weeks.
it's beautiful, cloudy and about -5 i think so walking around isn't too bad at all.

took only a few shots so far, mostly with the 25.

this is your ex new yorker turned cold canadian signing off..

😉

Joe , don't forget to have fun!
ch-ch-cheers, Jan

good morning all!
it was nice to wake up in my own bed again.
the mountains were nice to visit and it would be wonderful to own a small chalet and live there for a while...

took a few rolls of film while strolling through town, used the 90 quite a bit just to see if i could. my mind kept going to what the scene would look like with a wide angle.
one evening i went out with the 35 and the zi on my monopod for store window shots and general empty street scenes, not too sure that the monopod helped keep things steady enough.

and getting back to the original post here, allen is a pretty good guy (especially since he comes from new jersey😉) and i envy his warm california weather some winter days. he is an easy guy to chat with and we had a pretty good time wondering around whyte avenue.
i'm not much of a tour guide but if any of you happen to be in edmonton i'm always up for a bit of shooting and/or at least a coffee.

Only 13 days after the last post but...again, I had an excellent time chatting with Joe. He was a fine tour guide, in the sense that good conversation trumps seeing the "sights" almost any time. And I'm a firm believer that photographs are always around you, waiting to be taken; it doesn't matter where you are.

For those that are interested, my Edmonton scans, thus far, are at http://photos.kaiyen.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=32

This isn't just on Whyte avenue, of course. Some are at midnight in the mall. I screwed up 1 roll with insufficient developer, but there are a couple of frames I'm trying to salvage anyway.

I'm sure glad we have some extra heat from the gulf stream here, it was 51F today in Belgium, and thats already around the lowest comfortable temperature IMHO. I fear the day that the first snow will fall 😱

The only thing that should be cold is beer and ice cream.

Now, I will be in NYC in late December, visiting family. And I was just in Yosemite for the holiday, where it was about 35F for most of the day (high of about 38-40). So I'm prepping myself and regaining my tolerance for cold. I think. Hope. 🙂

Actually, the impact of the cold on my cameras was impressive. What was a sticky cocking rack on my Retina IIa became an almost immovable one. The acceptable but to-be-replaced foam on the Canonet started flaking off entirely, and actually got stuck to the film. It was nuts.
