Recently, I entered a photo contest put together by Hamish Gill over at 35mmc.com. Each entry was a single photo from a cheap point-and-shoot camera, with the brief that it should be hard to tell it was taken with such a simple camera. After some very close voting that went down to the wire, I was fortunate enough to win the contest. The prize arrived here just a few days ago.

It's a IIIc from 1946 or 1947, fully CLA'd and ready to go. The lens, part of the prize, is an Industar-61 L/D. Though in my use it will probably look more like this:

I've just loaded a roll of HP5+ and can't wait to get it out and put it to work.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, this is the photo I submitted, taken with a Yashica J-Mini:

Congratulations 🙂

now you only need to find a cheap SBOOI 5cm brightline finder, IMO every Barnack used with 50mm lenses needs one 😉

& maybe a coated post-war Elmar. I also used to use a FED 50/3.5 on my IIIf... the Elmar is soooo much better (and I tried two of the FEDs, both were clean and nice).

If you are lucky, both SBOOI + Elmar won't cost you over 100€ 😎

Enjoy your Barnack, they are fun little cameras.

If I want a viewfinder, I've got a Voigtländer Kontur that I quite like. Truth be told, however, much of the appeal of a Barnack is the small size, so the auxiliary VF will only be on there in specific circumstances. As for an Elmar, well, if I find one cheap I'll grab it, but right now I'm going to go with what I've already got; I've got more LTM 50s than I can possibly use....

Really clean example! Looks great. I see where you're coming from regarding the viewfinder and portability. With the collapsible lens and sans auxiliary viewfinder, the Barnack is so incredibly sMALL! Must say that I somewhat agree with Filtzkoeter about the Elmar. But you have time to acquire that later.
Congratulations on your great little camera!
