Melbourne (Australia) gathering?

Okay, I've mentioned the idea a couple of times.

So here's my idea: I have the weekends of the 15th and 16th, or the 29th and 30th, free (I work every other weekend). It'd be great to get together somewhere photogenic (St. Kilda, perhaps?) and share a few beers, take a few shots, fondle each other's gear (photographic, that is). :)

So who's up for it?

Cheers,
Steve

I'm keen.

either the 15/16th or the 21st would be good - after work? I might be heading away the next week.

Adrian

Jeez, guys. Make it difficult, why don't you!
This is the trouble with working in retail. Even Australia is a working day for me. Having said that, it's a *short* working day. I finish at 4pm, it'll be light until 9pm or so anyway, and the midday sun is way too harsh for good shots! Australia Day, then?
Good suggestion, Kris.

Cheers
Steve

Unless, of course, Kris can make the 15th/16th, and Mourges can't do the 26th.

Gwad you must have ESP or something...

I _was_ going to post suggestion for a gathering as I'm coming over in April 2005 for the IWF.

Stu :)

Stu, there's absolutely no reason we can't do an April get together as well!

Cheers,
Steve

WAHOO!
My dates at moment are going to be the 22nd of April until the 28th of April. Still confirming the dates and times for the IWF, but it's going to take up at least 3½ days.

Stu :)

PS. Any good B&Bs in Carlton or near the university?

damn...i might even have to come down to melbourne in april.....

tim

Pherdinand, I think I'll have to send you one of those cheesy 'No kangaroos in Austria' T-shirts...

Roman

Roman - believe me I do have one of those. I bought it in Vienna a few years ago. It's the one with the jumping cows saying mu-uuuu-uuu. But it has the question marks after the "Austria".

This summer i was wearing it in Paris. A guy on the subway found it very very funny.

By the way, off-topic: For the new years eve we went to (Puchberg am) Schneeberg. There was no snow around, very disappointing. (For non-german speaking like me, schneeberg = snow-mountain.)
Turned out a great fun in the end, however.

Roman - is it a general austrian habbit that at midnight 31 dec, people play the Waltzer very very loud on the radio and dance waltzer on the streets? Or is it a local specialty? :D

General habit - and it is only the 'Blue Danube Waltz' that's allowed...
ANd the other tradition is to watch the Vienna Philharmonics' 'Neujahrskonzert' with a hang-over on the morning of Jan. 1.
How did you get to Puchberg, of all places? Did you come from Hungary? Where from?

Roman

PS: Sorry guys for hi-jacking this thread...

That's alright, Roman. I was chuckling away with you guys, anyway.

That said, back on track: I'm not available for the 16th (Sunday) so that leaves only the 15th as a day which we can all (hopefully) get to. So time, place suggestions, guys? Can't see much on the that's Melbourne site for the Saturday. Alternatively, EARLY Sunday morning at one of the markets might work, but I've got to be in Ferntree Gully at 11.00am, so I'd rather do Saturday.

Cheers,
Steve

I can't make it 15th or 16th. :(

Can't you make it on 21st after 6:30pm Steve? Midsumma festival should give us good opportunities of people snapping; girls, guys and uncategorised. Time Out has good ice coffee too!

Otherwise we will have to arrange one in April when Stu comes to Melbourne. Maybe we can drag Tim from Sydney too so we can fondle his Leica. :D

Yes, my mom is always watching the Neujahrskonzert. The romanian national TV is transmitting 1 hour of it.

We went to Puchberg since it was the most accessible place from Hungary for losers without a car:) The train goes right up from Vienna in less than 2 hours; and Budapest to Vienna is only 3 more. I desperatley wanted to go to mountains; i was sick of this flatness already (Sorry Remy :D ) but to get into the higher Carpathes (where I come from), is very complicated and timeconsuming so we went for the Alps ;)

I'd gladly join the Melbourne meeting but apparently we will have the 10th year college reunion at that time :D

Kris, that's no good. Okay, nothing happening this weekend, then. I can't do Midsumma, as on the 21st I'm rostered to work until 9pm. Bummer. Looks like April will be the way to go, and hopefully Tim can make it. I'd like to fondle it, too. ;)

I know Mourges can't do Aust. Day, but how about it, Kris? I'll finish work at 5ish, and we can catch the late arvo light.

Cheers,
Steve

Sure Steve. I don't have work on Australia Day so you can choose the time that suits you best.

I'll give you my contact number too via PM in case there's a drama. I hope the weather on 26th will be better than today's. Any chance you can get a Leica by then? :D
