Hey guys and girls,
Josee and I are just getting settled into Köln, and will be here until the end of March.
A much needed break!
We will have some weekends free, and would like to meet some fellow RFF members for shooting and/or drinking lots of kölsch...
If you live here, or nearby, please let us know. We'll be travelling within Germany some weekends as well, so will try to organise the odd RFF weekend in other cities, too.
Looking forward to hearing from you all!
Cheers,
BJ

I'm living an hour's drive away from Koeln. And I hate Koelsch
If you'd like to taste some real beer, just drop me a note and we can meet in my hometown.

You couldn't possibly find a worse beer on the german than Koelsch .... The real thing is sold in the south of German, beers which deserve the name "beer".
I live in Munich, if you plan to come down that far I would love to "rangefinder" around with you guys a bit .... and try some of the good stuff.

Well, it seems that the koelsch is not very poplular... Perhaps I've committed some infracation against some unknown law about mentioning it?
Anyways, glad to hear that there are a whole two members in Germany! Perhaps the others will come out of the woodwork if I make it clear that no-one has to drink any koelsch. It's optional!
iDude: I will take you up on your offer/challenge to try some real beer. Perhaps in two weeks or so?
Buttons: I was in Munchen for New Year's, and have burns from the fireworks to prove it! I'll keep in touch about the next time I am heading down that way. We can 'rangefinder about', have a bite to eat at the Augustiner (unless you know a better place to have wurst und ein dunkles biere) and then hit the mighty HB for a couple of litres before we say goodnight! Deal?
Until later,
Cheers!

Never, really never ask in Germany someone if he likes the beer from another part of the country. In the worst case such questions could start wars
And if you ask me, I know a place in Augsburg (about 50 km from Munich) where you can get real beer from a little brewery, not the stuff from the big ones who belong to dutch companies... duckandcover
So, the next time you are in the southern part of Germany feel free to send a pm, maybe you will get a combined Augsburg/Munich weekend
Greetings
John

Sound like a good deal BJ, but we'll pass the Augustiner .... and head to the Weisses Brauhaus/schneiders, where they serve the best beer in the world (Aventinus)
Traveller, I'm intersted to know they place, I am a bit of a beer fanatic, and have a belly to prove it!
And as for dutch breweries, all they know about is making money (and apparantly lots of it) but brewing beer ... they don't have a clue.
Therse a place relatively near augsburg, The castle of Odelzhausen where they serve good beers, there Trubes Helles and there Operator are both excellent, and they brew it themselves too.
I drive out there to get the occasional case or two ...
But I'd like to know about the Augsburg place..... do they have starckbeer ?

The place is called "König von Flandern", it's near the Rathausplatz in a old cellar. A good place for dark beer (they also got helles) and good food too. I think they also have starckbeer, but not from their own brewery. The castle I know too and I like te beer.
And the dutch: That's why they bought the big Munich ones :bang:, but as long as they stay with the recipes and let us keep the beergardens in summer.....

I guess you're talking about the big breweries. The small ones here in Holland damn well know how to brew a real beer, and we don't have to use boots to drink it.

I think the owner knows a little bit about history, the foundations of the Netherlands and Belgium have been laid at the Reichstag in Augsburg (I think about 1500 and something ). But maybe he has only been traveling in Belgium
Tell me when you want to check it out, maybe I'm in town

So I can come up with maybe 2 breweries in holland which make beer, as in the meaning of beer ... Grolsch is pretty good for a light pilsner beer, Arcen (maybe not spelled right), you have Brandt which is OK too, and theres one brewerie in the south of holland which makes an excellent dark stronbeer but I can't think of the name at the moment

Always the big ones, the small ones would be long gone without quality products. And don't forget, the boots are only for folklore

There might be loads of local breweries and they might even be good, but they don't neccesarely have to be good, or fit into a certain taste patern. Personally I don't go for the modern beers much, I like the old traditional stuff, made in the way they were made x00 years ago. A fine example of this is Westvleteren from Flanders. Made now like it was made 500 years ago depite the EC restrictions which allas they put on the fabrication of beers.

My opinion is:
normales Bier = Becks
Weizen = Schneider Weisse
there are some other beers which taste also good...but I think these are the best!
btw. Hi from Kassel
