I opened up the RFF forum main page, and I always look at the photos displayed on the main page. I saw one with a woman carrying a "chogi pole" with what appeared to be food. I used to eat food carried by a woman similar to this in Quang Tri, Viet Nam in the 70s. She was a great cook and so her Pho was a nearly every morning treat. You have to be a real RFF old timer to remember what RFF was like then, and why a photo like that became such a hit, and commented on even in other threads.

Ah, memories.

I've visited Viet Nam, I've had some amazing Pho and other dishes, and I've even seen a few people with these poles to carry their wares, but you didn't really ask a question, so there didn't seem to be an urgent need to answer.

So, what was it about the selfie in front of toilets and urinals that caught your eye? That one puzzles me. Did you perhaps intend to link to a more interesting photo?

No, I didn't ask a question, since for those who were around at the time, there was no need to. A thread was started on self portraits. It didn't take too long before one appeared by a member who was so excited to participate he ran into a bathroom and took a photo. It kicked off quite a firestorm. That has been some time ago, but actually, my recollection was that it was another photo that was the first bathroom self portrait, that had a counter in the foreground. But don't think strange of it. It was all in good fun.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Vietnam. I have always thought well of the people there, and considered many as my friends. And truly the food could be amazing.

Your are right.

RFF was so much less Leica centric, and many bragged about the FSU cameras that would accept Leica and Contax lenses and at much less cost than a Leica or Contax camera to put those lenses on. It was considered a smart solution to the cost the more expensive German cameras. Now of course, even the FSU lenses tend to be spoken of well. But not so much the FSU cameras.

Times change.

I couldn't understand the "back then" reference, since the copyright says 2016, but I guess that is generated by the Forum program, and next year it will say 2017. I did finally notice the 08-21-04 Posted date.

Yeah, Yashica Electro 35's were really all the rage for a while, but that has died down with the dropping of prices on the interchangeable lens cameras. Either that, or everyone went through the same experience at the same time, graduating from fixed lens to interchangeable.

Another old time memory. Greyhoundman was a magician with Canonets. I sent him a Canonet from ebay. A real piece of junk, and I told him that. He put it back in perfect nick and only charged his normal fee. I think he was the one that tracked down Joe from where Greyhoundman was through the police where Joe was. I never heard what happened to him. I always enjoyed his posts. He never hesitated to share his Canonet expertise.
