Some photos from today’s visit with the replica Memphis Belle B17 Bomber. These were taken with a Nikon P7700, and I also have some shots taken on a Yashica Samurai X3.0 half-frame that will be added later after I get them developed.

Memphis Belle is coming to Winston Salem next weekend. Many years ago I got to meet her pilot at the Asheville NC air show. He was born and raised in the Asheville area and his biography is a good read. When they came home after 25 missions the whole crew went on a war bonds tour. While visiting Asheville, Captain Morgan flew Belle on knife edge between two of Ashevilles biggest buildings. There was a government office in one of the buildings and they got on the phone about the crazy pilot doing stunts in a B 17. Shortly word came back from the Pentagon that Captain Morgan had permission to buzz any building he liked.

Several year ago I got a ride in B 17 Liberty Belle. Worth every penny. Joe

I believe it is the aircraft from the movie. When it was here in Winston last year, I got to meet a ball turret gunner. A man of small stature but great courage. Joe

I did a walk through on the ground many years back. I can imagine it was like hiding in a beer can while being shot at with 50 cal. When there were no fighters, there was flack, ie AAA.

I saw this plane many years ago shortly after it had been in the movie, Joe, and it still looks good. I didn't want to spend the time waiting in the line, and had been inside it before, so I got a bunch of shots without too many people around.

Winston Salem Air Show next weekend? I should go see her. Awesome plane.

I was going to suggest that, Greg. Get there early so you can hear the whole presentation by the tour guide that he gives before anyone is allowed in the plane.

A big part of seeing these old warbirds is meeting some of the veterans who come out to see. They are all in their late 80's or early 90's. Get out and meet these guys before they are gone.

Thanks to all who served in our military, whether in war or peace. Joe

Update 9-7-14

Six more photos, and seven videos to finish off the color digital stuff. I still have to get the B&W roll finished in the half-frame cam, then I'll add those.
