Hi Rose,
Good job on these. What scanner did you use?

I like them, too. I like the clarity of the third one, but prefer the first one composition wise.

Ha! Gerry you know which scanner I used. The 4490 you sold me 2 years ago
The fog was lifting right about sunset, when I took that 3rd shot.
Seal Rock is one of those bird hangouts one doesn't really want to see too clearly...

Yes, those are very nice! Thanks for sharing.
The second one is curious in square format because the movement of the birds strongly suggests a space not in the frame. I know I would be tempted to crop. The upper part of the image is very strong on it's own.
...but then I suppose I could get off my butt, shoot my own landscape 6x6 and crop it

Nice pictures, Rose, and a beautiful camera. Seal Rock is near my house, it's one of my favorite spots. You captured some different moods in these three. The sepia tone suits the subject . I see you have the Tessar model. I have a Novar lens version of the Mess-Ikonta. It is a very solid folder, isn't it?

Funny (not really!) about the scanner thing. Since I recently have gotten back into film, I have just replaced that scanner. I think it is the same except for a different colored lid and more $$$. I hope I can get results as good as yours. Not likely, since patience is not one of my strong points.

Gerry- the stock 120 film holder is flimsy and useless. The Better Scanning holder makes a big difference.
David- Actually the cropping idea makes sense.
Yes, this is a wonderful camera. It fit in my coat pocket very nicely too.
I love the feel of the whole Sutro Bath ruins and the area around the Cliff House.
Actually, I really love the Novar lens and have the Nettar/Novar 6x9. Excellent lens!!

Nice photos, Rose! Makes me wish I could take time off work and do some real work with my own Mess Ikonta. They're sweet cameras. I also have the Tessar but the Novars aren't bad at all, either. I'll have to try the Acros/Xtol combo some time.

I recall years back a group of us would meet at the Cliff House (was that the breakfast place above the baths ?) and the waitress there (she'd worked there for years) would take all of our order without writing anything down and punctuated everything she said with "dears"![]()
So much coastline, so little time....

Thanks Jimi and Simon!
DwF- Maybe you're referring to Louis', the burger joint? I didn't go t here this trip, but I have been several times before and m ay have had the same waitress. Great burgers and shakes, though!
One reason I can no longer live in SF- that cold and damp does not agree with me! Phooey! I was wearing a winter coat in late August!!

Beautiful shots.
Lovely work.
It's amazing what these old cameras can still do.

Oh boy -- that's one pretty camera. I wish I had seen that in person, as well as the 6x9 Nettar.
Oh wait. I did!
When you get a chance, post that photo of the fence that you showed me. That was really a sweet shot.

Really nice photos. I have that in a non-RF Japanese version, the Fuji Six. Very portable as you say. And the Fuji is also a nice photo taker.

That's the photo! Outstanding!
The Mess Ikonta 6x6 is another great camera from Zeiss Ikon.

Slightly threadjacking here: I was out doing a test roll today at lunchtime. I thought the Mess Ikonta had "automatic winding", ie no need to use the red window after the first frame, but after winding far too long, I found it doesn't seem like it... Is this correct? If so, I need to wind on with the red window but I have double exposure prevention, right?

Right. Only the Super Ikontas have automatic winding - however the spacing and release locking on the later, lighter III/IV models is somewhat unreliable, while the old B/BX model with its very sturdy transport almost outweighs a Hasselblad. In terms of reliability in a small package, the Mess Ikonta is excellent.

Thanks, Sevo, good to know this.
There was a lot to think about when using the camera, especially remembering to actually focus the lens (not only the rangefinder) but all in all for a first test roll, the camera felt very good. It's going in for a CLA pretty soon now, as it needs relubing of the squeaking lens helical and a viewfinder cleanup. One of these days, I hope I'll find one of the older Ikontas with an uncoated lens.
