Yes I wear 4 eye’s (eyeglasses, spectacles) while using a camera. An older camera with metal viewfinder eyepiece scratches my eyeglass lens. I’m trying to find an economical way to cover the metal eyepiece viewfinder with something soft. I thought about using an artist paintbrush and apply a product called Plastic Dip or something similar. I’ve tried the rubber eyecup and it doesn’t work for me. What do you do or what product do you used to protect your glasses?

I use Liquid Electrical Tape, a rubbery material in liquid form. It's a bit gloppy to work with, but it dries nicely to a rubber coating. I get mine in Home Depot. It even comes in colors (though black is what I use).

Does the material soak up facial oil or deteriorate over time and smudge the glass?

Good idea. I might try it. I have also heard of people buying from hardware stores appropriately sized round rubber or fibre washers / grommets and gluing them to the back of the finder. I have some liquid electical tape and yes its hard to use but imagine it would be possible for something like this.

I super glued a round, plumbing, rubber washer to the VF on my Canon L1 (the infamous eyeglass killer) and my CV 35mm VF. Works great.
