Metal threaded battery cap on M6 TTL or MP?

I had an M6 TTL that had a metal threaded battery cap that had no issues, unlike the plastic one that needs tape over it to prevent it from popping off of my M7. Wrong move on my part that I sold the TTL.

Just wondering if anyone knows if all Leica M6 TTL's have the metal threaded cap or if the MP film cameras do.

I've searched and don't see any discussion of the metal threaded caps or which Leica M film cameras have them.

MP 311XXXX metal batter cap. It came with a spare battery cap, most likely still in the box... in deep storage.

M7 and MP caps are not interchangeable. I suspect Leica NJ would send you a replacement for the M7.

My MP 397XXXX has metal threads but the cap for the most part is crap plastic.

This problem happens with the camera on its own, I mean without a motor drive?

I had the same problem of having to tape the thing but only when using the motor drive, couldn't believe this. Can't say I miss the piece of crap really...

Yes, there's been quite a lot of discussion of it online. First time it happened for me was back when I had an M6 Classic- the cover popped off and battery sprung about 8 feet across the sidewalk. That caused me to sell the camera. I was excited when the M7 came out, and the battery cap was fine at first. The camera has been great otherwise. I've never had a camera that didn't have some quirk or shortcoming, but it's odd it seems it would have been so simple to just use metal threads from the beginning on all of the Leicas that use a battery.

From the way it's sounding here, maybe all of the MP cameras (and M6 TTL's?) use metal threads for the cap.

My M6 TTL came with a threaded metal cap that has no coin slot. Once on it not only did not pop off, but was also a major pain to take off. I ended up ordering one from Leica Miami that has a coin slot in it, as is much easier to tighten down and also remove.

My M& does not have a threaded cap but a twist 90 degree plastic cap. Never had a problem with it coming loose in 12 years.

Beemermark, when I read "90 degree" in your post, I decided to remove the tape and see if the cap was fully twisted in, and it wasn't. It does pretty much stay in before twisting it further to the point where it sort of pops in place, so I wonder if at times that's what's caused it to later let go. I cleaned up the tape residue and didn't reapply the tape, but I'm a little afraid to go shoot with that way for fear of losing the cap again. Might try and just keep an eye on it or carry an extra if it does fall off again.

If you google the topic though you can easily find 10-20 people who have mentioned the same problem losing the cap (and also having difficulty getting it off). I wonder if it's just too easy to think the cap is in place when it isn't, or possibly it inadvertently gets loosened up when people grip that area when holding the camera.
