Meter problems with Bessa R2

Just took out my newly acquired 2nd hand Bessa R2 for a spin. Meter appears to be dead, strange, it worked a few days ago. 🙁
Got home and checked the batteries - totally flat.

I replaced them and then I noticed when you lightly press the shutter, the meter activates, but doesn't seem to deactivate until I've taken a picture. I presume this is not by design, I would have thought it would turn itself off after a few seconds of non-use?

What does yours do?

Mine turns itself off after 10 secondes or so.

Mine turns off after a few seconds (I guess 10 is about right).

Also, the R2 meter should not turn on if the shutter is not cocked. So, don't cock the shutter before putting it away, this will help preserve the battery.

Yeah, I thought it should turn off! I'll bring it back to where I got it (a camera repair place, so I have a guarantee) 🙂
