I have a Luna Pro S which works erratically, seems like something loose in the chassis.

I called Quality Light Metric in Hollywood today and spoke to the great George Milton. A sweet man.

However, because of COVID and 53 years of business he is retiring. Other technicians are moving and will not accept repair jobs.

He did give me the name of a company in West LA....SPectra Cine and called them. Recorded VM saying no walk in service but can email with questions for service

I've yet to see a response from them.

Spectra is the manufacturer of the Spectra IV meter, which is primarily designed for cinematography. The company's meters, which are now the only American-made light meters, are legendary in Hollywood...they've been awarded an Oscar for technical achievement!

Spectra also services meters made by other companies. They've responded fast when I have emailed them before; they're probably short-staffed now because of COVID. The Los Angeles area has been VERY hard hit by the virus.
 
Nobody can replace Mr. Milton. He took care of his customers personally, no matter what. It was always a pleasure to deal with him and I'm sorry to learn that he's retiring. Thanks for the news! I will have to be twice as careful with my Sekonic meters and all others I have.

Mr. Milton resurrected three Leica meters for me. And they were always in great condition when I received them from him. I eventually sold them because it made me nervous to have them... Oh, well.

Times are a-changing...
 
I too agree that George will be sorely missed...I have four meters he brought back to life and another he fixed that I gave to my cousin...I've talked with him several times and have saved his notes regarding his repairs on my meters.
Hopefully, the company he's referring will be just as good...George's address wasn't his shop but a PO Box place and the person working there recognized a lightmeter when you walked in with one, so it was just as easy to mail it to him once I learned that...

Sad to hear that Quality Light Metric is gone. George Milton was a fine guy who always took pains to do the best work. None of us last forever. That's a good career he'd put in.

I called him this morning and even with that old world accent I felt in the presence of a sort of saint. Just the most authentic decent and kind person. I was thinking about begging him to help me but I knew it would not work and would be wrong. I did ask him if I should open up the meter my self and he strongly discouraged me from doing that. He asked me how long I've had the meter and I told him close to ten years but with not much use. I may still open the damn thing up, it's not like I don't have another meter or that I could probably buy another working sample for not a whole lot of $. It's that I just liked the idea that I might figure out to save it since some loose inside, probably some damaged or loose contact.

I wished him well in retirement. I sensed he was tired and COVID stress was the last straw.

I emailed Spectra-Cine yesterday about sending my Spectra Combi-2 in for calibration. They emailed me a form which has a space to write the Spectra model being sent in; and after that there was a space to write in any other meter being sent for service. It even mentions Minolta and Sekonic by name as examples of other brands.

So I think we will always be able to get service.

The form gets a bit technical, asking if I wanted my meter calibration in Lux or something else. I just wrote, "I have no idea, I want to use it with my Hasselblad."
 
I think I posted somewhere that Spectra Cine declined to look at my Luna Pro S. I eventually fixed the problem myself. they are more than willing to work on your Spectra but had no taste for an old Luna Pro.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
