Metro Station Exploration

#2 is AMAZING. Clearly painted with light.

I also live in Orange County. In fact, I attend Golden West College in (your hometown) Huntington Beach. What I'm mustering to ask is... where did you take these pictures? I'm not familiar with any "Metro Station" as such you have captured. Anywhere within county limits?

Thanks, Johnny! These were shot at the stations in the City of Lost Angels... just north of the county line ;) Do you live in OC as well?

I think the shots are terrific. I love the effect the blown highlights give. After all, this is not journalism photography, it is art. Well done!

How did you not get busted for being a terrorist? Taking photos in a public place, a railway station no less!! Only half joking. Of the photos, I like 2 the best, it reminds me of that photo of the 4 men on top of a building in Brazil, slightly sinister. I like the graininess, the isolated figures, the spectral highlights, the ghostly figure in the window. It is very film noir, very Alphaville, keep at it. All the best, Alan.
Hahaha... I don't know! I'm "foreign" even, so one would think that people would worry even more about my photographing inside the station.

As far as I know there is no law against photography in the LA Metro stations or on-board the cars. I also ensured that I always had my camera around my neck, in plainsight of everybody there. I definitely got some strange looks from people as they were passing by... I gather that photography in the Metro is not an everyday occurance... but I made sure to give anybody that made eye contact a nod and a smile.

In #1, you can see a black square towards the right side on the opposite wall. Hanging from that square is a security camera (and there's another one on the far end of the corridor that the person is about to enter.) I stood in clear view of the camera for more than 5 minutes... taking photographs of the escalators. I figured that if anybody had a problem with that they would come and question me about my intentions. Nobody did.

Alan, you've piqued my curiosity. Could you send me a link to the photograph in Brazil that you mentioned? Also thanks for the info about Alphaville... I'm going to try and rent it soon.

Thanks for your comments!

I will have to plan a trip there soon. I live in Stanton, I work in Fountain Valley, and I go to school in Huntington beach... yes I do live in OC.
