That's really me
I went to the Microtek website to check for any update to firmware or drivers and found a sobering message. Turns out Microtek is pulling out of the North America market in terms of consumer goods. This doesn't affect any other markets as the F1 will still be available.
I guess support will be hard to come by when the 1 year warranty expires. If anybody was debating which scanner to get there's one less variable in the equation now..

It's only the beginning, I suspect.

They're calling it a "temporary closure." Hmmm. And over the holiday season? It's not like a lot of people buy (higher-end) scanners for the holidays, but...
The temp closure is for the holidays. The first and second paragraph states they are changing the focus for the North American market.
From the second paragraph on the webpage:
"Closure of Sales and Marketing Operations in North America
Microtek has closed the sales and marketing operations in North America. The sales and marketing information that was posted on www.microtekusa.com has been removed."

I guess that makes up my mind for me. I will have to buy an Epson scanner.

Can you imagine the number of people who get a Microtek scanner as a Christmas present who go to the Microtek site looking for support or updated drivers on Christmas day only to find that no support will be available until at least the 5th of January (or was it 9th, can't remember)?!
