I have an old (10 years next month) Canon Pixma ip4200 printer that I'm very happy with, but..... It is no longer supported by Canon and the current Mac driver offers just basic functions (no duplex, no greyscale, no color control....).
I tried the Gutenprint drivers, but am very disappointed with them - most settings won't work.
Then I found PrintFab, a very good driver collection for older printers that extends the capabilities and control over printers greatly. Happy with it! But, it's a 30-day trial version and the full version is 50€. Amazon offers the Canon Pixma ip 7250 for 56€ - NEW!
Now I know someone who has a Canon Multifunction thing that is supposedly based on the 7250 and it's got a very flimsy built, is noisy and takes ages to wake up, prepare printing and then shut down. All this was way better in the 4200.
What shall I do? I was happy with the Pixma line from Canon, don't have the money to get a Pixma Pro, even the 100 model is quite out of reach. Shall I shell out for the PrintFab software?
Now there are other brands out there, but I was happy with my Canon, it is reliable, printhead NEVER dried out even when unused for months and it keeps chugging away happily after 10 years....
Any good recommendations from you? Is the ip7250 OK? Shall I invest 50€ i an old printer or get a new one?
