I remember Mike Mandel ... I took a class or two from him way back in 1983 or so, we became photo friends, and did some photography together. That was in Santa Cruz, just after I graduated from UC Santa Cruz.

Wasn’t Mike Mandel the guy who traveled around with baseball gear in his car and photographed a bunch of famous photographers posing as baseball players? He then made up a set of baseball cards with the photos - same guy? I’m not sure if he packaged them with bubble gum, like in the old days.

Wonderful! I had just started college in 1971. He captures a kooky sense of play that one doesn’t usualky associate w the early 70s.

So, he kind of did "street" but literally placed himself on to the scene. My favorite is the one where you barely see him behind the young girls – there he is photobombing.
