Mine arrived

I keep a cat in my freezer just in case I get a new camera. Then I giggle at all those people that comment on how "life-like" the lens renders the image. It's frozen mid-pounce, so with a little a pp to get rid of the wire it also suggests wildly fast autofocus speed for any camera. I so can't wait for the x100.

so jealous :) when are we getting these in america? anyone know? i can't seem to find any info. i'm on preorder with adorama but I was deciding for way too long and probably am at the back of the queue

I'm afraid that is not going to happen. X100 really is a game changer whether we like it or not. Almost every serious photographer would eventually want of one these, or its similar competition.

What happens if you still want to shoot film? Does that mean you're not serious?

Are you aware of the old photographers saying -- 'Experts talk about light, amateurs talk about composition, and beginners talk about equipment.' Paraphrased of course, and not universally true, but there's an element of truth there. A 'serious photographer' will use just about any camera. Doesn't even have to be a rangefinder.

And don't take any of this personally, because just about anyone who posts on these types of forums has a bit of the fondler in them. Including me.

... I would not say that the X100 costs "very little" ... It costs 3 times what I paid in total for a Leica IIIb, new covering and a Leitz lens (35mm or 50mm).

Um, the Leica IIIb is a camera that is 73 years old lacks an SD card and a USB port.

Pray tell, how am I supposed to get the pictures from it into lightroom?

Use. Not necessarily like. Most of the professionals I've know have held quite strong views on the cameras they like, and which they don't. But (a) they don't pretend that 'everybody' needs the same camera and (b) they don't hop between systems. Once they have a camera that does what they want, they stick with it.

Cheers,

R.

I'm going to get one when they come out with the full frame interchangeable lens version and this one is $50 on ebay.

I am jealous. It's a really neat camera!

In case you're shooting color, its very cheap. A body and a 35mm f2 lens with unlimited film supply, not to mention ISO 3200 and ISO 6400.

In case you're shooting B&W and using a fixed lens RF camera, then you're still ok.

All true. But if you want to make a colour print you have to do it via a computer. I really enjoy the RA-4 darkroom so this is not the camera for me.

Be careful at first; I'm concerned about spontaneous human combustion occurring on first contact with some people here:

"SHC victims are sometimes described as people who fall into a trance immediately before their incineration. Heymer[3] suggests that a psychosomatic process in such emotionally-charged people can trigger off a chain reaction by reacting nitrogen within the body to set off a chain reaction of mitochondrial explosions..."

Larky, Aside from the SHC risk, good luck with it.

Have mine as well. Only problem is battery isn't charged so have to wait to have a play.

Okay, I know I can't really be jealous having fondled one a month ago, but WHERE'S MINE GAD DAMMIT!?! [/Cartman voice]

[Edit: word is a SMALL number arrived in the country, possibly more expected on the 14th. No promises to anyone.]

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah there is one in the country!

Like so many people it's painful waiting to find if this camera is as good as its press.

So comment pictures or just plain old lies are required now!
