Minilux questions

Conversion cost?

Conversion cost?

Totally agree about the performance of the lens. My Minilux died a while ago with e02 code. I like the lens so much that I just sent the camera to Japan to have the lens converted to the M mount lens. Just can't wait to use the lens again on my M bodies.

It looks like th cost of the conversion is double the price of the camera itself in full working order. is that correct? Does anyone know if the later Leica CM has the same or other reliability issues?

Also, flex cables *can* be repaired by a skilled technician. Way above my skills (tightening screws, etc) but anyone with proper soldering skills should be able to do it.

E02...?

E02...?

I am shooting more with the Minilux now, and quite enjoy it. This morning I took it out, and briefly it would show the E02 error, but then commenced to work as usual. It was quite cold (below freezing).
Is the famous E02 error that killed so many Minilux something that comes and stays or is this brief appearance a sign that mine will go soon too? Only curious because I am leaving on a trip next week and wonder if I can risk taking it....

I shot it over the weekend and see what happens. Still, feedback from experienced Minilux users would be appreciated.

So - having started a recent thread about a Minilux that suddenly went dead with the dreaded E02 syndrome - does anyone have a suggestion for a repair of an otherwise pristine Minilux? Does anyone know if the Leica CM suffers from the same or other known issues. I did so love my Minilux...Or is anyone interested in taking this one off my hands and dealing with the repair?
I have the Leica CM not the Minilux and it went dead 24 hours after I bought it! Leica does not repair it but in Oporto at Fototecnica they repaired my camera in less than 2 days and for a very reasonable price. The technician said he already had repaired a couple of miniluxes with the same problem.

I believe the cause is a soft cable between the camera and the lens assembly and yes it eventually will die very soon, at least for me it did. If it does let me know because I had my CM repaired for the same reason.

Hi, exactly there is a printed circuit that goes from the camera to the lens, when the lens goes in and out this printed circuit on plastic cracks and the signal is cut. I´ve been trying to fix this, but the lines are so thin...i have a CM and a Minilux with that very same problem...I´ll try to check them again perhaps...

I recently repaired my Leica CM see here:

The Leica minilux viewfinder is directly over the lens and has tick marks for 0.7m framing, as well as tick marks for panorama cropping (fwiw).

So, encouraged by fresh posts on a different forum, I took the plunge and sent my sleeping beauty to JP Cameras in Porto, Portugal. A month later and ~100 Euros lighter I have back a fully functioning Minilux. Yeah!!!!
The ability to shoot in aperture priority mode or focus to infinity from the dials really makes it for me, it feels good in hand and it's a real Leica lens on a P&S! The finder doesn't really bother me for the P&S experience this is intended for...I am a much more discerning gear nut (and I hope photographer) than when I originally picked up the camera and I am still very much enthused by it...the one thing I really hate is the lack of ISO setting, so it's either DX code at box speed or 100 by default.
Recent snap from the first developed roll (I've got half a roll of Acros 100 in at the moment...) -

I love that camera, I use Exposure compensation when I need to adjust iso , what really puzzles me is the AF system, it misses quite a lot of shots and tends to focus just past the object like in the foto below, here it focused on plastic containers behind woman seller. I always wondered if this bug only on my example?

Yeah you can use the ISO setting to compensate for pushing / pulling to some degree the ISO as it goes from -2.0EV to +2.0EV in 0.5EV increments and the setting is remembered even if you turn the camera off or it goes to sleep (why oh why didn't they also make the flash settings persistent, I have no idea). So pushing a ISO400 canister to 1600 is easy, assuming you have DX coded canisters.
