Hi

does anyone know what's the minimum distance for the rangefinder when focusing with the M2?
I noticed with my summicron 35 IV series and summicron 50 pre-asph (both from the 1990s) that the rangefinder won't be moving further below the 1m (basically the roller reaches its lowest distance at that level and stops "following" the circular cam of the lens that continues to turn further down to its limit of 70cm). Using an older elmarit 90 (from 1960) doesn't show the same problem, i.e. the roller follows the cam for the whole excursion of the cam.
This doesn't happen on the M6, where the roller reaches its total extension when the cam reaches the end of the range.
Both M2 and M6 are aligned with all lenses at infinity, instead.
I heard that the M3 wouldn't go beyond 1m, and I wonder if the M2 has the same feature or I need some small calibration on the close range.
Thanks

actually I was a bit imprecise: the rangefinder roller stops following the cam from about 76 cm, so what I'missing is 6 cms down to 70 cm...
still wondering if and how this is fixable, and if it's a fix that would be better to leave in expert hands

Hi,
The adjustment involves balancing the cam under the roller that engages the lens and the arm length at the other end of the lever with the eccentric collar. In your case the roller does not travel forward enough for the final 4cm. Without the camera to hand it becomes a difficult diagnosis. If you are a competent operator this adjustment is not too difficult and would be a speedy job for a good repairman with all the necessary tools.

thanks normclarke,

I will send it back to my repairman. Does it need to recalibrate the rangefinder, by the way?
