Minolta 40mm 'C' eBay purchase - What's goin' on ?

Here's a photo of a Minolta 40mm 'm' fit lens that I for bid and won nearly 5 hours ago on ebay

The seller has maybe altered the top line wording (possibly shortly before auction ending, I think, maybe ?) and says that I've bought a much older lens of which I have no idea of it's serial number and or, condition.

Silly I may be but I would never bid that much for a pig in a poke, about $400 including ship but not import duties.

Can anyone read and confirm this number ?

Not sure what the problem is. Looks like the CLE version of the 40/2 M-Rokkor (a fine lens by the way). Are you saying that this is a "bait & switch," w/the seller substituting a different lens for that in the photo? Can you give us the eBay item #?

Yes, of course I can give you the the eBay item # but I'd rather just wait and I'm not at all sure about the legal implications - can anyone clarify ?

I think he may have altered [and included a different lens serial number before the auction ended] but the complete advert and photos show clearly the 2110784 Rokkor lens.

Here's front photo of the lens that I've won and not the 6 digit earlier lens.

Was anyone watching this on their favorites ?

Guess I'm not knowledgable enough on the progressions in M-rokkor design, but from the top picture I can easily make the bottom one, and to my (untrained?) eye they are identical.

What am I missing?

I found it and I see your trouble. That's to say, I see what you think you're seeing.

That is a Shutterblade sale, and the number included in the auction title is their stock number. Take a look at their eBay shop, all their auctions have 6-digit numbers in the heading.

And, should anything be off after all, there's always the neg. feedback threat...!

I've heard these and the CL lenses are bringing a good buck.

The CLE lenses should be more recent than the CL, have no clue as to the numbering sequence.

It is easy to find the item 😉

You can check the revisions on the listing. According to that, the description was altered on 15 Oct. That must have been just after the start. All the pictures you show seem to come from the ad. It is possible to change embedded pictures in a listing but not an uploaded picture or the words without it being recorded.

I don't quite understand why the seller kept quoting the SN [stock number] and not the serial number that I made references to in our e:mail exchange.

. . .and yes I'll post some photos when I'm in receipt of the Rokkor.

I have the later multi-coated version of the Rokkor. I purchased it overseas with its companion the CLE.

That lens has been one of my best value purchases in photography equipment. It is a great performer and produces images and bokeh very similar to the Summicron 35mm IV, but for a fraction of the price as you would know following your purchase. Even if prices and interest has risen over the last few years in this lens, it still represents great value to its Summicron namesake.

The online photographer once did an excellent review on the 40mm coverage. If you google or use the search I think that there is a thread here on rangefinder as well about this perspective.

I love the fact that it is a little tighter than 35mm. It is a truely great choice. Good luck.

CL and CLE 40s are multi-coated. Even late Summicron-C copies are.

The great thing about the CLE 40/2 is the straight RF cam and sturdy built. Very much like the Summicron v3 (better than v4).

You bid on a super lens.

My mistake - I should have worded my original post better.

I should have written that "I ALSO have the later multi-coated version of the Rokkor" - the same as the OP's lens in the picture provided.

Camera Quest gives a comprehensive breakdown of the difference between the Rokkor for the earlier CL - serial number on filter, as opposed to the lens for the later CLE - serial number on the barrel (same as mine and the OP's).

There has been a lot of conjecture on the net whether the CLE version has more coatings compared to its older sister, the CL Rokkor.

All I know is that I have been extremely satisified with this lens and it represents one of the best value lens on the second hand market. It is also tiny and doesn't protrude from my M6 like the 35mm ASPH and the Biogon 35mm.

I respectfully disagree, although from my studies I believe some Summicron-C's were multicoated contrary to conventional wisdom stating all being single coated, some of them were still single coated.
