Today I picked up an almost new Minolta AF Tele for about $5.00 at Good Will. It's in mint condition. It has two lenses, a 38MM and a 80MM the specs say. The WA and Tele change with the movement of a lever on the side of the lens. I tried to find out what the F stop the 38M is but can't seem to locate any info on it. The Minolta web sites say it came out in 1985, but none of the sites give any particulars. Anyone familiar with this model, and if so, what aperature is the 38MM and the 80MM, as well as what shutter speeds does it have? I'm taking it he the UCF game tomorrow to get some random shots to see what it'll do. I'll post some as soon as I get them back.
 
Thanks bear! So it's a 60MM not an 80MM. I mentioned 80MM cause I thought I saw it on one of the sites. Quite frankly, I didn't think it matched up to 80MM. I've always liked Minoltas; way back in my college days [1960s], my first "good" camera, a 35MM, was a Minolta RF AL[?] an it produced great pics. Also had it in Okinawa with me and it was my only 35MM until I purchased a SRT101 there and used that for a long time. I was sorry to see the demise of Minolta, it was like losing a good friend. I still have several of them around, including SRTMCII w/58MM F1.2, SRT100x, AF2, 5000 AF, and now the AF Tele. Thanks for the info and web site, I'll check it out, and will post some pics ASAP.
 
When I saw the title, I thought you had the same camera as my Freedom Tele. Mine does have the 80mm lens. I took a chance on it for a dollar at a yard sale. Since the battery is so expensive, I hacked together a battery from a pair of lithium CR2's to test a roll. I was surprised by how sharp all the photos were.
 
It's funny, I picked up a Minolta Freedom Tele at Goodwill this past weekend for $5. The battery cost twice as much as the camera. Word on the street is that this is the same camera as the Leica AF-C1. Pix I've seen from the AF-C1 are very sharp and nice looking (at least at the wide end).

Curious: the AF-C1 is a 40mm/80mm, while the Freedom Tele is listed as 38/80. I wonder if the Minolta also is 40/80 and they just fudged the numbers (or perhaps both cameras are 38/76). I'm assuming that the 80mm is achieved by using a doubler (or a 1.5x in the case of the AF Tele).

Finally got my pics back taken on my like new Minolta AF Tele, one taken on the 38MM and the other on 60MM. UCF [University of Central Florida] came back for an upset victory over Houston University.
 
Hey All,

I picked up on of these Minolta AF-Tele cameras at a thrift store a couple of days ago for just a few dollars. When I pulled it out of the plastic bag, it was obvious that it had some hard time. The paint or plastic with the logos and red stripe was peeling off of the front of the camera in big pieces. I gave it some help and finished the job. I kind of like the no brand, blacked out look. Kind of like a de-badged Leica. 😀
