Minolta Dimage Scan + OS X Snow Leopard

I am currently running my Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 with the latest version of the original Dimage Scan software, on a Mac Powerbook G4 and OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). This is the last fully compatibel OS X with Dimage Scan according to Konica Minolta. I am wondering if it will be sucessfull to install the Dimage Scan software on my Mac Mini (Intel) with OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) through Rosetta. Are there any users here who have experience with this set up?

I am grateful for any advice on this matter!

Yes it works.

I have exactly that version (10.6.8) on an old Macbook, and the Dimage software runs just fine on it. I am using the Minolta Dimage Multi Pro though, I don't know if there is separate software for these two scanners.

Just give it a try, it should work fine. If I remember correctly, I didn't have to do anything special to install and run the Dimage Software, no Rosetta was necessary to install afaik.

Just reviving this thread, looking for assurance and answers.
I have received a Minolta 5400 II scanner, but no Minolta software.

The OX is the latest OSX10.11.1. I have a copy of SilverFast 8, but according to them it will not work with the later/latest OSX. (I asked, and got a nice reply, just not what I wanted to hear unfortunately).

Vuescan seems to work (I tried the trial version, with water-marks), I just haven't plonked down the cash for it, I am being frugal until I really have to spend.

Will the "old" Minolta software work with the 5400 II and the OXS10? I'm keen to try and make sure.

In the end, if it will not then I am hamstrung, either dispose of the Minolta, or pony-up for VueScan.

Ideas?

The last version of the original Minolta software works very well on OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard, I doubt very much that it works with OSX 10.11. Your best option is to have an old Mac that is set up with OSX 10.1 - 10.6 and run the original Minolta software. The last version of the Minolta software can be downloaded from Konica-Minolta (15.4 mb file):

Your other option is Vuescan on the Mac you already have.

AFAIK, there is no Silverfast 8 for 5400 II (there is for ver. I) and pre-8 versions will not work on anything later than OSX 10.6 (same as Minolta DiMage Scan software).

Your only option is Vuescan.

(There is a possibility to run an older version of OSX in a virtual machine, but it is not trivial; but running some sort of Windows is easy and AFAIK serial number for Silverfast will work in Windows version too or can possibly be changed from OSX to Win with the help of LaserSoft)

Thank you bj, and also brbo, greatly appreciated. The link you supplied took me to where I have been a few times already, a software driver, but no scanning software, unless I am not looking in the right spot.

If I have to go find another, and older computer just to run the original scanner software, I might as well stop being so miserable and get VueScan. The concept of virtual machine is nearly beyond me, and again the advantages are outweighed by the complexity. Too hard.

It looks like VueScan here I come.

If you follow the link above to Konica Minolta, you will find the software (scanner driver) for the Minolta Dimage Scane Elite 5400ii. The file is named: d52102e.sit.hqx (15.4 mb)

I have two old Mac Powerbooks that can run this software, even my ancient Powerbook Pismo G3 from 2000 is able to run the Minolta scanner. And I would assume it is much less hassle to acquire an old Mac to run such software than using "virtual machine" on the latest OSX.

But I agree with both of you, Vuescan is probably the simplest remedy.

Thank you again bj, I found the file, downloaded it, only to find I cannot unzip it. This is because my operating system is too new.
I've all but given up and will most likely go the Vuescan route.
