Minolta Help

Howdy all. I have been lurking here for quite some time, going in and out of rangefinder phases, but still enjoying the photos and discussions. I have a Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII which is need of some repair. Do you know of anyone working on these cameras that could do the work for me? I have a 7 and 7s torn apart now, have no time, and don't want to take a risk on not getting this camera back together properly as it is a bit more expensive.

These Hi-Matics are some of my favorite cameras simply because of the lenses. They are sharp and the cameras are cheap. That makes for a pretty good formula. I am teaching at a small high school and am helping to facilitate a Photo Club here at the high school. I actually have a couple of students who are recognizing and starting to use rangefinders. I have loaned out a Zorki4 and a Hi-matic 9 in the past. I have gotten mixed reviews from, "that camera is old," to "that camera is ugly, to "cool!"

Mike- KEH (keh.com) has a repair section on their site that lists the HI-MATIC 7sII as one of the cameras they will accept for repair. I've been considering sending mine to them for a CLA, but have no experience with their repair dept. to date. Good luck,

I just got my Nikon F3 back from KEH Repair and I am totally satisfied with the service. Fast, good communication and repair correctly.

What is it that's wrong with your 7sii if you don't mind me asking?

I sent my 7sii to Mark Hama and he did a great job. Parts for the 7sii are hard to come by so be aware of that. They are great cameras and love mine as well.

I recently requested a quote from Essex Camera in Carlstadt, NJ, for a CLA on a Minolta 7s (with a set of aperture blades stuck), and they quoted me about $100.00.

Too much, IMO...might take a run at it myself, if I can pump up my courage...

I had a repair person look at the camera at one time and he mentioned that the lens and shutter simply needed to be restacked. I have a couple of 7s' apart now and feel somewhat comfortable with getting them back together but they are only worth around $25 or so. The 7sII is worth more than that and I am not quite THAT confident I could get it all back together once torn apart. They are beautiful little cameras with a quiet shutter and superb lenses, so would really like this one working.

The 7s I have has a film advance problem. The lever doesn't engage the winding mechanism. I would like to get it up and running so that my students could use it, but don't want to spend a fortune.

I will look at KEH and see how much it would be to get her fixed. I wouldn't mind sending it to an individual either.
