hello my fellow photologists, can anyone tell me, if my meter has had it do I need to keep the battery in for any other function . I thank you jack
I thank you I will try it on manual I am waiting for my first film to come back to see if my replacement of the light seals worked jackDid you try to select the ISO/ASA under the lens? It turns on the meter (with lens cap off of course), otherwise it will look dead. As the others said, the camera will work on manual and not in Auto if there are not batteries. I've used the Wein cells with some success, but they didn't last too long.

thanks I will go manualYou need a battery of the same voltage as a mercury cell, which was 1.35v, not 1.5 in silver oxide. I use zinc-air hearing aid batteries, which are 1.4v (close enough) and add a spacer, if necessary as those cells are not wide enough diameter.
The ohter option is to use a Wein cell. Those are quite a bit more expensive than the hearing aid batteries.
It's a nice little camera.
🙂MateI am a novice for 18 yrs I used an instamatic until I got a SLR.I am only just getting back into rangefinders. My camera is the older 1966 7S.Go onto minolta hi-matic site and dial up matts classic cameras all the gel is there.Hi, Tenter10,
May I ask what specific battery make and model you are using? I ordered a used Hi-Matic 7SII, and I am wondering if the same battery would have the same result in the the camera I get.
I'm new to this old camera thing, but it seems that different batteries have different affects on these old meters.
Thank you,
Robt.
🙂I put a 1.5 volt battery in and the needle went to the top and stayed there .On my camera the meter is kerfuffled, and I am awaiting a hand held light meter.🙂MateI am a novice for 18 yrs I used an instamatic until I got a SLR.I am only just getting back into rangefinders.
