Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII - Meter Adjustment

Well, I've scoured Google for an answer but I wasn't find what I was looking for. There was only one reply to a thread that the meter can be adjusted but no further details.

I have a near minty Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII that I found in a thrift store but the meter does not read correctly. It reads about 2-3 stops higher. For example, if the exposure is supposed to be 1/125 @ f16 (as checked with my DSLR), the meter reading will be at or between f5.6 & f8.

I have tried two different brands of 675 zinc-air batteries.

If anyone can provide any guidance or info on adjusting the meter & the resistance value of the potentiometer, that would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming there are no connectivity issues in the circuit that might result in excessive resistance, it sounds like the cell itself is out of spec, and this fault may well be beyond the ability of the trim pot to preserve the correct linear response across the entire metering range.

The meter has two adjustment resistors. Right one is connected in series with a galvanometer. It adjusts linearity of a response function by rolling its upper part (higher EV) down. Left one shunts those two forming a current divider. Use left one if you need a more or less constant EV bias. It also can be used to readjust a meter for a different battery voltage.

What were you using as your target when you were metering? If it was a dark object, very possible the DSLR's more advanced metering was automatically compensating, while the Minolta is strictly old school and will tend to overexpose in those situations. If you got access to an 18% gray card, try using that as your target.
