So finally got a better back lens installed in the Black HI-MATIC E that I have. In trying to figure out the flash for 400 ASA film, it leaves me scratching my head.

I have a Minolta Electroflash 2, I think it's the same as the Electroflash 3 but with 4 batteries. That's about all I could find.

The Electroflash 2 shows a GNm of 14 with 100 ASA

I loaded up a roll of 400 ASA film and then looked on the chart and it says to use the GN for 100 ASA and look for the letter at the 400 ASA. The Electroflash 2 shows a guide number in meters of 14. So looking at the chart is seems that is a blank, so it doesn't look like it can be used, but 200 ASA Can be used with a GNm of 14. Which is where I get hung up.

ASA 200 with a GNm of 14 uses A, GNm of 20 Uses B, GNm of 28 uses C. So as the flash gets more powerful can I assume that the camera F-Stop increases as the max distance seem to be the same but shorter distance is what's changing? And that the setting of 'A' is Wide open F-Stop or is shutter speed also involved?

What I'm reading is it that a GNm of 14 with 400 ASA Film is not suggested because the Flash is not bright enough, but that kinda' doesn't make sense, but on the chart more powerful flashes (Higher GN) will work with 400 Film?

I may have a big misunderstanding how GN's work as well as the camera 😉

OR am I way overthinking this and just put the Lightning Bolt on the Index as per the manual. This also aligns the other marker with the 'B' on the Letters Scale, and it will work just fine with the 400 film??
