Hi

Today I picked up a black Minolta Hi-Matic F in a thrift store. I put hearing aid batteries in (camera originally takes 2 px640's) and it works. Everything seems to work fine (rangefinder, flash sync) except for the following:

In long exposures (more than 1 sec) I need to keep the shutter release button pressed for the entire exposure. If I release the shutter and pull my finger off right away the shutter closes instantly. Is this supposed to be this way or is my camera not functioning right? Does anybody know a fix for this?

And how would you rate the 38/2.7 rokkor lens on this camera?

Thanks,

Berk

Hey,

The Hi-Matic F will do exposures up to 4 seconds; however, you will have to hold the button down for the entire exposure.

You can check out the manual via this page.

From the manual: "The exposure warning lamp will go on again when the shutter opens and will stay on until it closes. It is important to remember that you MUST HOLD THE SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON DOWN UNTIL THE LAMP GOES OUT" (and yes, it's actually in all caps in the manual, so you know they're serious about it!).

I'm not personally familiar with the lens on this camera, but if it's anything like other Minolta lenses from the same period it'll be a beauty. Congrats on a great find!
