Hi Guys! I just want to ask something. I recently just received a Colorsplash Flash from a friend and I'm wondering if it is compatible with my Minolta Hi-Matic G? Since I have read that if you use a non-compatible flash accessory then you will end up damaging your camera and I don't want that to happen.

You will not damage a camera of that age with any flash - in the seventies, flashes with a direct high voltage trigger were still available new (and a common choice for such a relatively affordable camera).

Ohh ok ok. But I would also like to ask what part of the camera usually breaks or being damaged whenever you are using a non-compatible flash accessory?

Modern cameras use solid state, transistor-like circuits to close the flash contacts on the hot shoe. Older flashes often have high voltage directly on the flash terminals. Transistors are delicate and don't like the high voltage, which can "fry" them.

Conversely, older cameras used physical switch contacts to trigger the hot shoe terminals. These metal switch contacts are simply more robust with high voltage.
