I just received a like new Minolta Hi-Matic S, and I noticed that the frame counter isn't working. Anyone know if it can "unstick" it without removing the top?:mad:
 
I'd check with needle if gummed foam hasn't fallen into counter release hole (seen from film chamber).

Another possibility - camera has been dropped and non-working or intermittently working film counter is what you got from it. My SLR had this scenario.
 
The camera hasn't been dropped - it's in like new condition. I can push the counter tab in with a toothpick and it bounces back quite briskly. Perhaps blowing out the area with a can of compressed air might blow out any residue that could be lodged in there. Thanks for the input.
 
I removed the top of my Minolta Himatic S, which was a breeze, fiddled with it for a few minutes, checking to see if a spring had dropped off or something like that but no success. I then pulled out the little black lever which is depressed when the cover is closed, bending it a little bit toward the film chamber, attached the film advance lever, closed the back and walla, the film counter began to work. Apparently the little lever was bent in toward the camera and when the back was closed, the small protrusion on the camera back didn't push it in far enough to engage the film counter. Another crisis averted. I'll take the Himatic S into Ukraine with me this weekend and test it out. I'm really glad the fix was so simple. I hope to post some pics of Ukraine upon my return from Ukraine.

Here are a few pictures I took on my recent trip to Ukraine with my mint Minolta Himatic S zone focusing machine. It really worked well and I think the pictures came out just great. I shot B and W 400 Kodak and was well pleased with the results. Nice camera.
