Hi.

This is my first post in RFF and I´m not sure if it´s in the right place.

Anyway I bought my first rangefinder lately - a Minolta Hi-Matic F.

I have goggled it but could´nt find much about it.
What i´m looking for is a flash to fit on it. As far as I recall i once saw a nice little flash which looked like it was designed specially for the Hi-Matic F.
I would appriciate if someone here could help leading me to find one that will go with the camera.

Sincerly

Werner

Welcome Wemer,

Congrats on getting a Hi-Matic F. It is a really a nice little rangefinder and I have enjoyed using mine. There is a fair amount of information on the internet in the form of reviews. You could start with my review and Flickr photos at:

As far as a flash goes, the Hi-Matic F was often sold paired with the Minolta Electroflash P.

Electroflash P -- a compact, manual unit using 2 AA batteries and providing a GN of 45 in feet with ISO 100 speed film. It is a hot shoe only unit.

You just put the flash on the camera and it goes into Flashmatic mode. You then set the guide number of the flash on the ring on the lens barrel and the Hi-Matic F will then control the aperture based on focused distance so that the image is correctly exposed. The Hi-Matic F will work with any manual flash. You should be able to get a Electroflash P or 20, which is similar, for about $5.00 or $10.00. I just saw a listing on Ebay for $218.11, what a laugh. Keep looking, it shouldn't take long to find one.

Here is a listing for a 20:

I have one of these and it works the same way on my Himatic E. They should be reasonably plentiful - keep looking.

And welcome to the forum!

Hi Guys
Thanks for the reply.
I will start looking for a Minolta Electroflash P og 20.

Camera.bear you say that the Hi-Matic F will work with any manuel flash. Does that means that for instance an flash that works on old Minolta MD SLR´s eg. XG-1 or SRT 101 will work on my Hi-Matic F as well.

Seems that any manual flash will work. If you have an auto flash, set it to manual and use its guide number to set the camera. The Hi-Matic will then set itself to sync at 1/20 sec with the aperture controlled by focus distance.

I have pdf and doc versions of the manual that I could email to you. Send your email address to me. wayne@wayneyoungphoto.com.
