I just got this scanner previous owner had no issues with it. I'm using Silverfast 6.6 on Mac OS 10.5 and I can't get a nice sharp scan at all. I've used Silverfast with my other scanners never had a problem....Autofocus is on. Tried doing manual focus and nothing, turned off and restarted nothing I'm really clueless on what to do here. Anyone have any ideas here?? I attached a sample scan ignore the watermark since I haven't purchased the software....

Thanks
Marko

That certainly is not sharp ... maybe it copped a jolt in transit sufficient to knock something out of whack?

I guess that is possible....although I was able to get one sharp scan using Vuescan and after that they are all soft. Also with the 35mm it previews just the middle of the frame not the whole frame which is weird as well...

I spent the best part of an hour looking for a fantastic guide (with pictures) on how to fix this issue.

Generally it occurs when a scanner has been shipped/transported or given a decent enough knock without the optics locking screw in place. The optics get jarred out of place and need to be re-aligned. If you can find the guide, you'll be able to fix it yourself. I wish I could send you the link but I just can't find it again... sorry :( Fortunately it's not something I've had a problem with.. touch wood!

Best of luck with it! Maybe post up to a couple of forums to see if someone can point you to that guide.

The thing is it had the optics locking screw in place, and packed in its original box and double boxed...I wouldn't even try to open this thing up and trying to fix it, is there somewhere I could take it that knows what they are doing could re-aligned....? I am returning it and getting my money back as of right now

There's a download PDF for this problem here: http://scanhancer.com/index.php?art=17&men=17

BUT, before you go this far - have you "set up" your MP properly i.e. click setup, correct format to be scanned selected, configured the software properly, etc. PM me if you need more help

p.s. The Minolta Dimage Scan software is far better than the two you've outlined.
