bought this half frame beauty from a "i-am-no-camera-expert-but-everything-including-the-meter-seems-to-work" seller some times ago.

the meter is NOT working. you can move the aperture indicator but the needle is not responding. i shot negative usually so i can live with it.

now, here comes the most ridiculous fault:

the film-catch is gone!! how did that happen?

the mechanic is alright, the remain of the take-up spool still advance.

any chance to DIY that film catch?

Man, I hate when that happens! Looks like you need to buy another just for parts. That is going to be a hard one to fix, as uncommon as the half frame cameras were. It might be a common part over several models though, so see if you can come up with a part number. Some of the folks in the repair section might be able to help you in that respect, or over at Classic Camera Repair Forum http://www.kyphoto.com/cgi-bin/forum/discus.cgi . Search the posts for anything on your particular camera first, then if you don't find an answer, sign up, log in, and ask away.

in case anybody cares:

i attached a roll of Kodak 200 color to the remain of the film-catch.
the winding worked so i shoot the roll.

the problem is the rewinding.
the film rolled too tight (not sure it's me or the mechanic) so i had to use force, then the film broke, i have to open the camera and retrieve the film in a dark bag. i taped the broken film together and send out to 1-hour process.

here's some better pictures:

i think the scratches were caused my "effort" when i tried to retrieve the film.

i can still say this is a real good camera.
i got to think out some proper way to use it more.

I have a working version of the repo. You may find a like-sized take-up spool on a hi-matic keep trying they are sm. fun -sized cameras to use😀

i tried to use mine again months ago, try to tape the film to the remaining pole. no luck. the winding is not smooth enough to work properly. so i forgot about it (still annoyed with this buying).

it is a inspiring thought to take the take-up spool from a hi-matic! it is much easier (and cheaper) to get another Repo for parts...

I understand, I just have not seen a lot of them, but yes try getting a parts camera. The repo is a fine camera ,just get one that matches yours .Mine is a type 2. Good luck, Red
