Hello Folks,

Today my scanner started to show a lot of banding on negatives.Yesterday, it seemed a little temperamental in scanning some Kodachrome slides.

I've not owned it from new, so I really don't know how old it is. I'm using Vuescan, and up to only a few weeks ago was getting some (to me) pretty good results from it.

Is this a telltale sign that the end is near, and do I have any servicing options?

Best regards,
RoyM

Bad form to double-post, I know.

As I've been investigating KM Scanners, I came across the following link which shows that Sony (at least in the US) are offering a service facility until the end of this year. I've sent an email asking if there is anything similar in the UK.

Apologies if this isn't news!

Best regards,
RoyM

Don't be alarmed, but if you're talking about big black bands (sometimes w/magenta edges) suddenly appearing in your scans, I would say yes. That's how my 1st Scan Multi Pro "died" a few years ago. I believe it has something to do w/the lamp/light source for the scanner. I think it can be fixed now, but when my scanner started malfunctioning I wasn't able to get Sony USA to fix it as they hadn't fully integrated the old Konica-Minolta parts &/or technicians. I ended up getting a generous "buyout" from Sony & bought another scanner off eBay.

Is this a telltale sign that the end is near, and do I have any servicing options?

Best regards,
RoyM

I'm now on my third Scan Dual IV because of this very problem. Even though I've sent the first of these scanners to KM recommended service in Portugal to no avail. Parts are hard to find if they do exist in the first place.
It's a pity that affordable scanners do not exist anymore.

Hello Folks,

I received an email reply this morning. The abridged version:

Should you need any assistance concerning the products mentioned
above in the future, please feel free to contact Sony's authorized
service station nearest to you. For your reference, a list of
Sony's Service Network is available on the following URL:
http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/contact/sonylist/index.html

The place mentioned in the UK (http://www.johnsons-photopia.co.uk/JP%20Service%20Solutions_17.php)) send scanners to somewhere in Germany for an estimate for repairs and servicing. Approximate turnaround time is 2-3 weeks apparently.

Best regards,
RoyM

In my case, I couldn't get much from their website, so I called their Tech Support number. After some digging, I was given the information "Jim in Akron 1-216-265-1111". Service is also available in Cleveland, but Akron is closer.

Will call later today and see what happens. My Dimage Scan Dual II is still working OK for B&W. I'm getting magenta bands when scanning color.
