minolta scan dual II compared to Nikon V

Hi,

Has anyone used a Minolta Dual Scan II and is currently using or has some comparison between the two. I just asking because I thinking of getting the Nikon. Will the Nikon improve my scans noticeably or shall I spend my money on a Zeiss Planar 50mm instead.

Please help before google bans me for making to much network trafic...

I used a Minolta Scan Dual II for years. The only reason I got another scanner, a Minolta MultiPro which I still use, was to scan medium format negs.

I am of the opinion that you would be very very hard pressed to tell the difference, even in a large print, from film scanned in the SD II and any other high end consumer film scanner.

So, no the Nikon will not improve your scan noticeably.

Spend your money on film and shooting more photos. That always has the highest return on investment.

I have the Minolta Dual II which I bought new and a Nikon 9000 ED. The 9000 is quite a bit up on the V but I think my opinion would suffice.

The Minolta is VERY good and of course I can see the difference between 4000 DPI and 2800. The difference in rendition is the light source, with the Minolta the better of the two, but the Nikon the more detailed. Minolta's software is better, but VueScan evens it out.

I bought the Nikon for the connectivity and 'support' (ha ha ha). The Minolta is SCSI and not supported anymore for parts or software.

If you don't need larger than 8 X 10 stick with the Minolta. It looks better. Hey, it's my old trusty friend and I like its warmth.

Hello Gents,
Do you have any tips in using the Scan Dual II? I've been comparing (for 35mm) with the Epson 3200 that I have, and the latter seems better to me in terms of detail. In fact the only area where the Minolta is better is for slide scanning. I am using the Minolta software - not Vuescan - and am not doing too much 'pre-scanning' tweaking. Am I missing a trick with the Minolta, as I was considering selling it and sticking with the Epson!
