Minolta x-700 MC Rokkor 50mm F1.4 VS Zeiss Ikon Opton T Tessa R 75mm F3.5

Ahh alright 🙂 I guess the website's wrong then

Hi,

Well, the trouble with the www is that anyone can post on it.

Anyway, this one is good about the Minoltas:-

As for the X-700 and f/1.4 lens it's a great combination but is there some reason why you need it? OK it's the fastest standard lens* they do in the later range but so what; you may never need it. And when you do the very shallow DoF might just be a pita. A flash might be a better way of spending the extra cash, especially if it has a bounce head...

The trouble with the www is that people go on and on about low light levels and frighten others. No one says what low light means, I'd suggest it means indoors in the evening with just a small light on but if you look in the 1930's Leica catalogues you'll find that long before people stopped thinking f/3.5 was very fast they were taking pictures by candlelight and their film was about 10 or 12 ASA or ISO as we call it these days. (EDIT) Some of my old meters (from the 30's) suggest 3 or 4 ISO as a normal film speed and a lot of them managed...

Regards, David

* It's my standard lens and I've had it for years.

Hi,

By the way, the Minolta X-300 is very similar to the X-700 and could be the basis of a very usable outfit. I've used one with a Tokina 28-85mm zoom and was greatly impressed. It has everything the majority of photographers need.

Regards, David

PS: I assume you are a beginner.

MC: Means it is multi-coated, which means each lens surface has multiple coatings, increasing light transmision and maybe giving richer colors and higher contrast

assuming makes an ass out of u and me.

By the way, an MC Rokkor doesn't mean that it's multi-coated. The MC stands for "meter-coupled."

IMO there's no such thing as "the best lens", but I'll tell you that the various Minolta MC and MD 50/1.4 lenses make wonderful pictures.
I grade my MC 50/f1.4 pictures alongside my Fuji FX 35/f1.4 pictures in terms of "look and feel" and that is high praise.

Will do 🙂 Thank you and everyone for helping me!

Enjoy your minolta!! You'll find that most internet forums speak a lot about Canon and Nikon, but reality is that Minolta and Pentax built some truly excellent cameras that were easily the equal (or better) of what Canon and Nikon offered at the time.

The X700 is a very nice and advanced camera.

Ha! Judging from the photo and the fact you mentioned 6 or 7 Canon QL17 GIII you're talking about Sunrise Photo in Sham Shui Po right? If you are, then awesome store. They let you test out the cameras with a roll of film after you buy it, if you don't like it they'll give you a refund. They have a lot of good stuff.

I don't want to confuse you but honestly if you have access to that shop I would consider thinking about their Olympus OM1 cameras or Nikon outfits if you don't mind manual exposure. For some reason they have a lot of these cameras for decent prices, e.g. the Olympus OM-1 with the 35mm is a good deal http://sunrisephotohk.blog126.fc2.com/category37-2.html
