Hello,
is there any way to make the hotshoe of the Minox 35 cameras cold? If you attach anything to the hotshoe, the camera is turning the speed automaticaly to 1/125s. I want to remove that "feature" and want to add an optical viewfinder or rangefinder to it without loosing the ability to use the aperture priority mode.

Regards
TK

The Minox hotshoe has a tiny, black, mechanical switch that activates flash sync speed when pushed; you 'll see it if you look inside the hotshoe, under the left rail and to the front. My Minox comes with a hotshoe protective cover that has a small notch in precisely the position that would otherwise push and enable that switch. Perhaps you could file the base of the external viewfinder in a similar manner. Just an idea before you get to the innards of the camera to disable the switch.

PS: I just googled and it appears that older Minox models have the switch in the front instead.

To do it the hard way: open the top cover and cut the wire connects to the hotshoe - literally making it cold.

I have put some masking tape on top of the hotshoe and covered the thing in the top left corner of te shoe that activates flash synch. I check this by seeing whether the metered film speed varies with light levels, as opposed to a fixed value when flash sync is operating.
Why? I have a rangefinder in the hotshoe, to play with focusing accuracy
