Well, the Minox EL I picked up 'as-is' today wasn't functioning, as could be expected. I got it for very cheap though, and the seller did say he wasn't sure whether it was ok or not. The advance is stuck, the film counter doesn't reset, and the shutter does nothing. On the bright side, the battery check function does work, indicating the stacked/taped CR1/3Ns I put in are functioning. I gather that the film can't be advanced, nor will the counter reset, until the shutter is fired.

Some more reading and asking leads me to believe the shutter solenoid might be the issue. Unfortunately I don't have any parts diagrams or repair manual covering this thing, and I fear unscrewing the wrong part at the wrong time. Any idea how I can easily get into this thing? :)

I have two minoxes (?sp) that have this same problem. Someone told me it has to do with the electromagnetic shutter control or something like that. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear how to fix this as well.

I posted on the classic camera repair forum, I think Rick Oleson might have some info on 'em. Will let you know.

Well, I never got a reply on the repair forum, so decided to disassemble it and see what's inside. Unfortunately everything's completely corroded, to the point where I wonder if it got dropped in water... it's now a parts camera.

On the brighter side, I resurrected a Petri 7S; disassembled and cleaned the lens elements, and fixed the crooked brightlines (a mirror had come unglued and was leaning in the rangefinder assembly), so today wasn't all bad.

I worked on one once and got it to work most of the time. The little contacts around the lens were gooed up. Open the back, and pop out that little cone around the lens. Work the shutter a few times and even though it doesn't open and close you'll see how it works. Rick Olsen has some very good diagrams on what to look for
