Mir with 35mm jupiter 12 and petri tele-wide finder

Took another walk today with my Mir, and my new 35mm lens I purchased off BrianS. The film was Kodak C41 B&W developed and scanned at Wal-mart. Do any of you use this film? The owner of the Pro photo lab told me that he knows people that shoot Illford XP-2 at iso50 with good results. I do not know if this works with the Kodak also?
I used a light meter, but many of my photos seemed overexposed. Maybe the developing? I also shot a roll with my Minox 35EL, they also all seemed overexposed. The Petri tele-wide finder seemed to work for the 35mm focal length.

very nice photos Keith, that is a good camera, I am a big fan of the J-12 lens, I have one the same vintage as yours, if that is a 1960 vintage. that was the last year they made those lenses at Krasngorsk, after 1960, production shifted to Lytkarino.

I'v been using Kodak BW400CN for some time now and like the result i get.
I rate it at 200 and like the details I get, there is a good article in the Feb 2006 Popular Photography about this film and how they also rate it at 200 ASA.

Looks like some good shots to me. Agreed the J.12 is a dandy. Only problem... I had to put on my sweater and gloves to look at your pics! brrrrr!! Haven't used that film much... a couple of times, but you've talked me into trying it a little more - at 200. thanks!

I have one more roll here. I will try it at 200 and see how it goes. It is cold here, was 60 on Friday, now it is like 17deg. Kinda sucks.

Nice shots Keith albiet a little flat and lacking contrast..I'll wager it was the processing...next time bracket a few shots either side of your meter reading ..see what results you get..don't forget to tell the guy who's doing the processing that you shot the film at 200 not 400..happy shooting!..nice kit you have there!

I think iso 50 is going a little too far with this film. You could give it a try though.

Fotosnapper, as I understand it, people shoot this film at 200/320 and then process at 400 to open up shadow detail as these films tolerate overexposure much better than underexposure.

In any case, find somewhere better to process your film if you care at all about your images. WalMart is horrible.

So if I shoot at ISO 200 I need to let the photo lab know?
I know wal-mart for the most part sucks. Ours is not that bad for photo developing, most of the workers actually use cameras. I go there because the small town I live in only has 2 places to go. One is CVS, the other is wal-mart. There is a pro photo shop 30 miles away, but they are pretty expensive, pretty far, and I'm not rich.

Keith, I'm glad that the J12 is now in your posession and that it's working well. IMHO, I like shooting BW400CN from ranges of 200 to 400. I've tried it at 100, but it came out underexposed. As mentioned above, bracket shots would be a good bet, just to test out what you prefer. I've been doing C-41 at home. Takes a bit of time, but Freestylephoto's .5 gal kit isn't bad. I just store it in 2L soda bottles.
