Here's a weird one. I recently purchased a SHOOC from a store in London; the view is clear, the framelines are bright, and cosmetically, it's not been thrashed about.

I noticed in the store that the parallax adjustment was a bit tight, but figured that would loosen up with use. What I didn't notice was that the parallax adjustment is completely wrong. The physical stop for infinity - where the viewfinder is at a flat/straight position - is located at the bottom of the viewfinder, next to the mounting plate/foot:

It is entirely possible to turn the parallax adjustment ring through a full 180º to get the mark to line up with the infinity symbol, but when you do, the viewfinder is tipped forwards and down into the close focusing position.

Worse still is that to do so, you have to turn the ring the wrong way - anti-clockwise from infinity to close-up, instead of the clockwise direction indicated by the scale.

Obviously, the right response here is "go back to the shop and take it back", but I don't know when I'll next have chance to do that and I'm honestly curious as to how such a simple thing can be so wrong.

Has anyone ever opened and serviced one of these (or the 85mm or 90mm variants that are built the same way), and can explain to me how this has happened?

I never have and posed a similar question back in 2009 🙂 Curious if anyone has any experience with this.
